Like who.. at the Club? Well, after months of trying to get some buy-in on some ideas we went straight to a Director through a contact made by another TC poster. It has worked wonders, jumping over a few layers of busy people.

Perhaps Jarusa the NBA could have a volunteer limb to it?

It's a bit distressing what slo mo has said, especially given how little gets done properly.

Slow-mo,

this is unfortunately typical of the club. I offered the same thing in the year 2000 to then marketing manager Jo Kalymnos. Here's how the conversation went:

Jo: How much are you currently earning?
Me: Almost $100k.
Jo: We couldn't pay you enough
Me: I'm volunteering to help out for free
Jo: Oh

that was it. No asking can I have your cv or anything. I was stunned. Anyway, just trying to make the point that this is a mind-set which is deeply ingrained in the club unfortunately.

That being said, the Club has put out calls for volunteers twice in the last 4 years and got bugger all responses.

Maybe there's a way we can circumvent this?

Maybe there's a way that TC'ers could list say 5 priorities of customer service that we arent doing well. Membership follow ups for one is a bugbear of mine - no follow up calls seems to be made. Email responding. Ground level marketing.

And maybe on the other side we run a volunteer thread here (or through Jarusas NBA idea).

And maybe we get a good liaison person - like me I guess given my current role, although the Bleuseum is taking up all of my Carlton allotted 'fun' time plus more...

and we bring it all together?

You're spot on chief. I have actually emailed the club twice offering to volunteer my time. I gave them a brief outline of my skillset but also stated that I was happy to help where the need was greatest.

I sent the first email in early April and the second in mid May. I HAVE NOT EVEN RECEIVED A REPLY!!!!

I am not making excuses for the club, however it could be that your email is being opened by someone quite junior in the hierarchy who might feel threatened by any volunteers coming in to do their jobs (even if its only on a volunteer/assisting basis).

Better to send a letter directly to the CEO and have him delegate to the correct person to respond.

Unless of course you have already done this and got no response, which in that case

If I told you the CLub didn't have the resources to read all those emails you'd probably get AGRO....

but its true

So we need to find a better solution.

I didnt realise - after the failed volunteer requests in the past - that people were serious about it. I thought it was Jarusa and I and Dan and afew other losers who only considered it... when you add that we've made 100 requests for people to help on the Blueseum for about 35 posters to actually do something, I guess I saw it as a lost cause.

our administration really is a disgrace i ordered a membership for my friend for $66 which is the silver squadron. 1 week later my friend received his membership and brought it up to me i looked at it and they'd sent him a social squadron with access to the stephen kernahan room and all. i told my dad and he just said that he'd get very angry in no uncertain terms if on his credit card they took the full amount of money for a social squadron which is over $200.
