Good thing you're being positive.

Sheesh.....some people.

Murphy was awesome
Russell looked every bit an AFL player. Any chance now we can keep him in the side.
Simpson 2nd and 3rd quaters were great. Showed some great leadership
Kennedy keep presenting - he looks one likely type.
Stevens was great
Scotland was very good - pity he tired in the last 15 minutes of the game
Whitnall was fantastic

Some of the negatives:
Kouta lack of effort is disgraceful. I think Clinton Grybas said during play in the 3 rd quarter "its time to lift now Kouta"
Although Walks was good on Cousins he needs to work harder in close in a contest. Gives up the ball too easy in a contest - seems to take his eye of the ball. Really needs to work on his kicking as well.

Never been prouder of the blues today, gave 100% against a vastly superior opposition who had an off day.

The extra few thousand K's in the Eagles midifield legs were the difference in the end of the day.

Carlt 21-23-149
West C 3-12-30

2nd June 2001.

It doesn't take a generation.

refresh my memory. was west coast ahead by 44 points during the 3rd quarter???

I'd prefer to refresh your memory with a 2 by 4 then point out the title of the thread, but that would probably land me in lockup over night.

Make your own 'R11: Reasons to cry in the corner' thread please.

Proud of the overall effort shown by the boys and a real lift in poise with the ball, we made mistakes sure, but we made sure we forced some pressure back on them too and didn't drop our heads.

Played Subiaco really well for the first time in god knows how long.

Rotated the midfield very similar to how mojo suggested maybe 3 weeks back, looks like he got through.

Houla and Stevens, neither of who could outrun T-Bird at stages, kept plugging and working their way back into the game and made a big difference overall, but Houla could be looking at a holiday, still don't know if his elbow slipped up or what.

Finally, made me happy both ways by giving me confidence in the parts of the list we need to care about, and maintaining our hunt for a PP of some form.

Wiggo and Fev were good too. :P

Yep agreed Rhys Kouta was dissapointing when so many players where putting in felt he had no second efforts and seemed to be beaten on many one on one contests. But hey this is a positives thread and for once there where a lot more positives than negatives in this match.

it was good that we lead 98% of the match but if we're gunna flood and stuff around everytime we're in the lead we'll never win a game

The fact Worsfold put a tag on Murphy shows how good a player he is. Must say i REALLY liked JK's attack on the ball. Again the true on field leaders (Whits, Stevo & Fev) stood up.

I was at the game today and my positives were:

- Murphy will be a star
- Jordan Russell has the attributes to be a quality player. (Glad we didn't select Monfries, Egan etc)
- Josh Kennedy looks the goods
- Walker and Betts continue to improve
- Wiggins has finally arrived as an AFL player. (I admit I was wrong about him and thought he was no good).
- The senior players Fev, Lance, Stevens and Scotland were obviously all very good.

There were a relatively large number of Carlton supporters at the ground and they were very vocal.

All we need now is another quality young midfielder, ruckman and a couple of years.

- We showed that we have talent that we can build around.
- JR showed he belonged at this level.
- Forward pressure was good.

From the AFL site:

Quote:
GOALS Brendan Fevola 43
MARKS Lance Whitnall 104
KICKS Heath Scotland 187
DISPOSALS Scott West 314

Haven't seen ANY Carlton player make ANY sort of list in yonks!

I was at the game -

Positives (non game related)
- The WA carlton supporters contigent is alive and well despite not winning a game in Perth for god knows how long;
- I think Murphy acknowledged the support Carlton were getting from the city end when he goaled in the 3rd qtr;
- A number of young kids around the ground wearing Carlton colors;

Game Related
- Kennedy crashing a pack and putting two Eagles defenders on the ground wandering what happened - imagine him doing this when he is 8-9 kg's heavier !;

- for the first time in ages we seemed to have some poise in the midfield;

- WC supporters (who are usually completing preoccupied with their team) on the train after the game acknowledging how good Murphy is.

Having said that it was devasting to lose...

My Top 5)

1) WE DIDN'T FLOOD! - Thank You Denis, our best games this year have been Melbourne/Essendon* & this one........ironically, those three games have been where we have flooded the least or not at all!

2) MURPHY
Jesus H Christ this kid is good! Remember....he's only 18. To be dominating a game like that at just 18 is just unthinkable!

3) RUSELL
Good to see him get a bit of game time. Looked a bit nervouse (as compared to his games against the bullants) but that will be ironed out in time.

4) FEV
Love you mate!

5) WE DIDN'T FLOOD

Yeah.......i said it twice. And i'm thankfull for it too. I cannot tell you how much it pisses me off to know that we pay a coach $800k a year and most of the time all he can come up with is the worst move ever created in the history of the game.
Well done Denis for not flooding.................and more importantly - THANK YOU!

Haven't seen spirits that high in the soc club for ages :)

Always a wierd feeling after a result like that. Very happy with how a number of them went but geez it'd be nice to be remembered in that match for being winners rather than gallant.

Thought Wiggins had a cracking start & maybe he'll be our Gillbee/Pettifer type who breaks through from being a battler to quality.

Walker had some great runs down the wings

Fwd line pressure lead by Betts was excellent...makes such a huge difference

Scottland I thought had a picnic for most of the game & ran cleverly into free space

Russell can take heaps of confidence out of his game

It'll all just come down to how the playing group responds. If we drop our heads over it we could start to become a team that doesn't know how to win as someone suggested. Keep playing on & playing the attacking game we did for most of the game & we should be able to do the right thing & beat North then match it with the Lions in Brisbane. The boys can learn a lot from today.

Hmm,the anonymity, that these forums provide for people such as yourself, are questionable at best.

The negativity in virtually all of your posts suggests that, maybe ,you were bullied at school, and have now found a platform to espouse your views out of harms way.Tell me it isn't so.

Thought the main Reason we lost that last quarter was Dean Cox
need a class ruckmen badly

Great to see Jordo Russell get game time do a couple of great tackles and a few nice kicks and give a bit of run

Mark Murphy class and nearly got decapitated

Josh Kennedy crashing packs and takin a couple of nice grabs

Big Red all australian centre half back

Fev busting his guts and chasin all day

Eddie forward pressure and great tackling

Stevo kept Kerr quiet for most of the day got away in the last but tried hard all day

Wiggins persistance has paid off went a bit quiet in the second half of the match but shows great promise playin as a forward

Overall was disapppointed to loose but proud of the Blueboys there is a light at the end of the tunnell with waite harlett and fisher to be key players to come back on a sad note i think Kouta has been a wonderful player but is just about at the end of his career cant see him playin on next year

whitnall

fev

As was quoted by gerard healy at half time, that was the best half a carlton side has played under pagan

Great post br - nothing like getting a feel for being at the game, particulalry at Subi. Did you go the Vic after the game?

And that prob is the best point about how we lost the last quarter

Cox smashed us in the ruck last quarter and there midfield had been kept in check for most of the afternoon and credit to French but he ran out of steam and cox dominated and i would check the stats but WC would have won most of the clearances from the centre and around the ground in the last quarter.

When our midfield lost the use of the ball maybe tired also because Cox started hitting his midfield they gained momentum and we stumbled in our tracks. Perhaps if we had Maclaren instead of someone else we would have faired better dunno. Cox is the best ruck in the competition French did well for 3 quarters but unfortunalty lost out big time in the last quarter

Unfortunately not - I have exams starting Tuesday and I still need to factor in a couple of hours tommorow night to watch Australia v Japan - so had to leave right after the game to start studying again ( and will need an all-nighter tonight !)

The support from the city end of subi had me harking back to those great couple of wins we had at Subi in 93 and 95 when you could swear there was as many Carlton supporters in the stadium as West Coast.

Another couple of positives

body language after mistakes....Last year we were woeful (used to make me feel ill when a player made a mistake and none of his team-mates supported him) this time at Subi after a couple of mistakes I noted a definate effort by teamates to rally behind each other.

I don't want to get carried away but Eddie Betts is becoming one of the best defensive fwd line players in the competition. Whilst it is easy to go on about Murphy/Walker/Kennedy/Russell - Eddie's work rate in the attacking 50 makes defenders nervous.
