I was at the game -

Positives (non game related)
- The WA carlton supporters contigent is alive and well despite not winning a game in Perth for god knows how long;
- I think Murphy acknowledged the support Carlton were getting from the city end when he goaled in the 3rd qtr;
- A number of young kids around the ground wearing Carlton colors;

Game Related
- Kennedy crashing a pack and putting two Eagles defenders on the ground wandering what happened - imagine him doing this when he is 8-9 kg's heavier !;

- for the first time in ages we seemed to have some poise in the midfield;

- WC supporters (who are usually completing preoccupied with their team) on the train after the game acknowledging how good Murphy is.

Having said that it was devasting to lose...

Great post br - nothing like getting a feel for being at the game, particulalry at Subi. Did you go the Vic after the game?

Unfortunately not - I have exams starting Tuesday and I still need to factor in a couple of hours tommorow night to watch Australia v Japan - so had to leave right after the game to start studying again ( and will need an all-nighter tonight !)

The support from the city end of subi had me harking back to those great couple of wins we had at Subi in 93 and 95 when you could swear there was as many Carlton supporters in the stadium as West Coast.

Another couple of positives

body language after mistakes....Last year we were woeful (used to make me feel ill when a player made a mistake and none of his team-mates supported him) this time at Subi after a couple of mistakes I noted a definate effort by teamates to rally behind each other.

I don't want to get carried away but Eddie Betts is becoming one of the best defensive fwd line players in the competition. Whilst it is easy to go on about Murphy/Walker/Kennedy/Russell - Eddie's work rate in the attacking 50 makes defenders nervous.

Great stuff! Wish I could've been there today - let's hope victories like '93 & '95 come around again soon.

I like the way that Russell heads for home when he gets the aggott.He dont stop,prop,or go sideways or backwards,he just heads straight for home.Bit of Glascott about Russell.A very direct type of player.

Playing positively for most of the game was a positive in my book - congratulations to Wiggins who made a big step today and Murphy there is a not a lot that you can say - Walker also made huge contributions and Kennedy showed a bit - thats all we have asked of the MC and that is to give the boys their head - good to see Murphy and Walker in the middle at the opening bounce.

you were there a couple of years ago barass - i was there today also, and cannot explain my disappointment.... Great signs, but to lose after leading strongly all day, and to be drinking ON MY OWN at the subi end in a blues jacket surrounded by eagles F%$er's, is a real let down....

Davey looked good....!

We didn't seem to butcher the ball as much as we have in previous games this year.
Marc Murphy - Fantastic!
That roar when Scotland kicked a goal. I thought he had missed it was so loud. Congratulations to our W.A. supporters.
Wiggins in the first quarter. The stewards should call for a swab after his last couple of weeks. Who'd have thought it!
We seemed to team better than we have all year.

It was great the vast majority of the mistakes the team made were 'positive' mistakes rather than negative mistakes.

I have never seen Carlton players caught so many times in a game for holding the ball.

But that is fantastic compared to seeing players turning the ball over kicking backwards or sideways.

Bring on the holding the ball decisions!!

The Wiggler,

What can I say!

A much derided player with Blues fans and on this forum in particular, I think a lot of us will agree he was the prime reason we started this game like we did (unlike our recent appalling 1st qtrs). I thought I'd never say this but the Wiggler looked like a smart player, contested, presented and disposed well. Went a but quite in the 2nd qtr as I think Worsfold realised how much he was hurting them. Another forward option uncovered today.

Now if we can add a couple more midfield guns, a key defender and a fair dinkum ruckman and maybe, just maybe.

Good on your Simon, keep it up mate!

The holding the ball decision against Andrew Walker in the last quarter was a disgrace. :roll: :evil:

I dont care if this is the positives thread - I am positive that that decision was a disgrace. :P

For sure, and a few others. :-D

But it was great seeing so many players get 'caught', meant they were trying to make the play which was good to see.

Absolutely, but its like the farmer waiting for rain, he wants it, but its out of his control and there is no good reason why he ever may get it.

It's a positive that we are one step closer to a top two or three pick in the draft.

it's not tanking, but if i cant make the finals, i see no point in finishing anywhere but bottom and stitching up some youngsters.

Wiggins was red-hot in that first quarter.

The impetus in the first half really came from the young kids. Walker, Murphy, Betts, and Simpson really gave it a crack. They chased hard and kept up with the WCE players, pressuring them into skill and decision errors.

Murphy deserves 3 brownlow votes for today's efforts.

Fev doing the Medhurst (waiting at the back of the pack for the spilled ball) was an effective tactic.

Our boys just went out there and had a real crack at it. Sadly, it didn't come off (I was devestated too). I spent the whole game wondering when the fall was coming and to the boys' credit it didn't come until right at the end, with tired bodies, tired minds, and f@*$^ing crap-house umpiring. We seemed to go defensive for the last quarter too, which really was an invitation for disaster.

It seemed to me that the umpires set out to get West Coast back into the game. There were several examples where the same thing happened for both teams, with the result in the Weagles favour.

Please Pagan - get them playing like that every week. Tell them to go out and back themselves - and each other.

Read the posts and can't really add anymore.

Attack on the ball was first class. The young kids and the attacking man on man football made it a joy to watch.

Sure we lost but if we play with that intensity, effort and passion more often than not the turn around has started.

It will still take a few more years but we can all look forward to the transition if this is what they will trot out.

Strange to feel upbeat after a devastating loss but I am!

West C 3-12-30

2nd June 2001.

It doesn't take a generation.

refresh my memory. was west coast ahead by 44 points during the 3rd quarter???

Well, it didnt take Geelong a "generation" to recover from losing to the same team when even further in front

Thank christ I wasn't the only one howling.

I reckon the club has a case to ask the afl for clarification on the holding the ball rule, as there were clearly two sets of interpretations running yesterday.

Look theyre not orphans who have been sexually and mentally abused.
StKilda kids went through this... Brissy kids have too..

Some of the absolute rubbish that gets put on is just unbelievable....

Its a learning curve for young kids that dont have a captain or a leadership group to lead them.

They will with time and maturity be a galvanised to never be beaten or allow games to slip if they can help it.

Yesterday they couldnt help it...

who wouldnt have taken a 10 point loss prior to the game???

They did well..,and theyre just still learning...

Fair dinkum the way some people talk about the kids is like theyre going to the Christian Brothers College...
