Well Marc Murphy has played 11 games so far for the Navy Blues.

... and I cannot think of a more impressive first 11 game FROM ANY PLAYER.

Just for comparison, here is a table of the average 'rating' of each top 3 midlfield pick from 2001 for their first 11 games.

Image
Ratings from www.finalsiren.com.

This is quite stunning, particularly when a lot of those players were playing in teams with better midfields than Carlton currently have at the moment. Of those players, only Deledio was the only other to play the first 11 games straight.

Watching Foxtel Active last week and seeing Marc sitting with his old man after the Port game, just having a chat and assessing the game you can see the young bloke is something special. A little time after that game Sticks went up to him and had a chat and you could see he was actually listening to what the great man had to say.

Congratulations to all the track watchers out there who spotted this kid. Those of us who see very little of them have you guys to thank for Marc Murphy, it is very early days, and he will go through his lean patches like every other mortal out there, but the Carlton Football Club have got an absolute beauty!!!

Agreed posted in the talking players section on Marc Murphy this kid is special and those stats make him even better than i what i had thought.

Everyone thought that last years draft was okay for a couple of the kids in the top 5 but i think you will find a few of us well i know myself and Pheonix said he was a class above the rest of the field ... and i reckon he is on par with some of the other great Midfield pickups in Deludio / Cooney / Ball

One thing i will say about Murph is that he has a really focused footy mind and i am certain he is a gun trainer and would be his own worst enemy if he was to review his own performances .... one thing is that he will be super consistant and when we start having success you can garantee he will be one who initiates it

Just huge praise for this kid was the stand out in last years draft and he brings character and leadership to a club lacking in both.... ASk Fev and i reckon you will find his number one fan lol

No reason he cant do a cousins and be the next major captain after either Stevo or Whits.

Those rankings are the best indicator of a players performance. 8) 8) 8)

This year I was expecting to see glimpses of brilliance and up and down performances but he produces brilliance every week and is very consistant. :-D

His goal after running down that ball after everyone gave it up as being a point was "Harmesesque".

Jarusa - any idea where Dale Thomas sits in that comparison??

I love the little Murph.

He is just what we needed. He will be the engine of our next successful team.

Yep, Dale Thomas, average 65.

But he has played only 9 games so far, in a team that has won 7 and lost 2 in the games he has played.

While I acknowledge that there are lies, damned lies and statistics, that's mighty impressive.

Can't wait til he has a few pre-seasons under his belt :-D

AHAHAHA, Tommi that is gold.

"The Murph of All Murphs", he certainly is. The Number 1 draft pick of the number 1 draft picks.

thats beautiful Tommi... going into the Tommi Collection for sure as far as im concerned.

Sheedy once said about Hird... "Ive never had to coach Hirdy.. he is that good"

Same can be said about Murphy... how good is he to walk into an AFL team and just be the go to man????

And some people said he wouldnt be worth a wooden spoon....

Still shattered by the result but what is stopping me reaching for the razor blades is hope. Murphy & Walker are going to lead our kids and us out of the darkness.

The great thing is he is already one of our top players. Young Walker is going to be great but he still has that potential tag around his neck, nothing potential about Murphy he's already arrived.

For the first time too I got a glimpse of young Kennedy's pace. Boy for a kid that size he is quite a speedster.

Also for the first time I could see Jordan Russell as a bona fide AFL footballer.

But as Tommi would say, if all the other Murphs could Murph as well as Murph does, they still couldn't match his Murphness....

marc murphy is the best thing that's happened tot his club in the last 15 years and it would just be a joke if he couldnt win the rising star because heath shaw is in his 2nd year and is picking up 25 cheap disposals everyweek across half back that would be a joke. i dont recall anyone having the impact murph has had in their first year of football and for that alone he should win the rising star award.
