Ratts never stuffed around, was serious and was respected.

Harfs was the club clown and not serious enough to be respected in the way that Brett Ratten was..........

great teachers are always well RESPECTED people.

In other words it's alot easier to take Ratten seriously.

Last night we witnessed an attacking brand of footy like what we seen round 1...... I have no doubt in the world he knows the capabaility of some but he knows how important it is to get some more quality kids into this side.

Next year we will see a different team run out, different game plan, attacking, accountable, contested, hard tough footy.

Harford's a clown (literally). Why not go for some of the assistants at West Coast, or Adelaide, or Port etc. Just because someone has a Carlton connection doesn't necessarily mean they are the best available, although I do rate Rats highly.

Rats you rate... Harford is a clown....

Can i ask you a question??.. or two???

Why do you rate Ratts?.. what have you seen from him that makes you rate him?
How is Harf a clown???
Why would an assistant coach leave an organisation like WC to come to Carlton???

:shaking my head at a tripper emoticon:

Synbad, if you can't respect other's opinions in a respectful way then don't respond.

I think FF took the words right out of my mouth re Rats. Everytime I have heard him speak about the game he is very insightful. I have heard Harford on SEN (think he has a show) and he clowns around, hence my use of the term literally.

Re asst coaches (and note I used WCE, Adelaide, Port as examples but also Dockers, Sydney and Bris), I know for a fact 1 whose wife is homesick and wants to return to Melbourne. Sometimes these guys make decisions in the best interests of their families, not all the time but sometimes.

The trick there Synbad is having the intel to know who these guys might be.

Considering bradley kept himself in tip top shape and was as fit as he was for all those years... he can do what he wants!!

How was he a top leader????

Can you clarify ??

do you even know what leader means???

Well he was a great leader in how he upheld himself and the work he done to ensure he would get the most out of himself and encouraged others to work hard at their game like he did...

Once again, many carlton supporters are pointing the blame at former carlton players when it was the selection committee and recruiting staff who are responsible for our decline....

How is a guy who has the fitness to be playing great footy at 38, encourage the others to work hard be looked at as biting the hand that feeds you....

Its just delusion from a bitter fan... People react to hurt and pain in different ways... Some go far enough to point the finger at club greats like Bradley and Ratten...

Personally, i'm appreciate at what they brought to the club and the success those players generated...

I really dont understand some of you people...

bradley was a great professional, no doubt about that ...

great leader is another matter entirely ...

barass.. i reckon im pretty insightful too... but it doesnt make me a great skills coach..

I think noone had a better skills makeup than harford.
he was smart..

and he speaks well.

hes very well liked around the club...

and he will take the job without having to pay him a squillion.. seeing he is playing with the Ants....

Also, he knows the kids.. and would have a good eye on their psyche .. work ethic and flaws.

OK Synbad (and for that matter all other TC tragics), if you had a blank canvas how would your coaching panel look.

For mine I would go the following:

Head Coach: Gary Lyon (Geez, I don't expect some stick for this)!
Asst Coaches: Brett Ratten, Wayne Carey, An asst from interstate
Developmemt Coach: Daniel Harford (that's for you Sinners)

You can add more assts if you like or change the structure, it's a blank canvas. Let's see which names come up.

Why have I gone for Lyon? More gut feel, just think he would shake up the place and I rate his expert commentary (he makes Brereton look second rate on Friday nights).

What about our current assistant Terry Daniher?

I rate Terry very highly.

I would love to see Peter Dean as senior coach, with Terry Daniher and Brett ratten underneath him.

As well as Ratten,i have no doubt Hartford could be very good also. But you cant have everyone, and i would take Ratten in a flash. The Dees midfield were not firing when Ratten arrived, but he improved them out of site, and are reaping the rewards to this day.
I truly believe our midfield is desperate for technical setup know how.We consistently get killed at stoppages when it counts.Ratten has proved he can cut it as an assistant...........I think Denis Pagan owes it to us supporters to bury the hatchet and get Ratten back in the knowledge THAT RATTEN CAN IMPROVE US WHERE IT COUNTS,IN THE GUTS.

Id use Mitchell.. and Harf... and maybe Paul Hudson.

Id bring someone like Sheldon in as footy manager.. he has a conflict of interest because of his son though.

Id keep Daniher and Dempsey.

Then id ask SOS/McKay to help the defence..

Then if it was up to me id be using a whole host of ex Carlton greats to take training one at a time to help the kids understand what a great club theyre playing at.

People like Bradley... Rhys Jones..Andrew McKay... Brett Ratten.. David Glascott.. Greg Williams...Michael Sexton etc etc .. etc.. to come in and just freshen them up with their own drills.
(just a guest training coach dueling as a mentor once a week) including people like Jezza/Walls and even sending a taxi to pick up the great Bruce Doull himself.

Personally, i reckon ex players would jump out of their skins to become involved with all the kids .

Id be looking at Michael Voss the year after next to come in as an assistant with an eye of bringing him in as senior coach soon after.. coinciding with the kids maturing..

Voss just on 3AW

Id love Voss as Coach.

Id say that Ratten would also do a good as an assistant.

I also reckon that Synbads idea of ex players involvement is a great idea.

Every team is looking for an edge, and we have a resource to give us an edge that has been pretty much overlooked - our ex players, many of whom have played in at least 1 premiership side.

How many ex players can say St Kilda, Geelong or Footscray muster to speak with the authority that our ex players could???

I have no idea how the coaching staff would react to such a thing, but I recall that when Kernahan spoke on what Carlton means to him, we won the next week.

But maybe Denis would like to snare a few more low draft picks before things like this are used..

Ratten you would hope would be approached by Carlton as an assistant...

Would fit the bill surely?..

Voss should not be talked about yet.

Sos also i'd like to see down at the club helping out our young defence..
