Maybe he's playing on because the match committee want him to.

Can't be much fun for the guy, struggling the way he is.

Great post BondiBlue.

Kouta, Sticks and SOS are my all time favourite Carlton players.

This may be the best case scenario for all concerned. Kouta must be leaning towards finishing this year and unlike last year the club is in the position to subtly remind him that the game is getting too fast and injuries have clearly slowed him (difficult to do when leading the comp in clearances). Hopefully he sees it and we won't have to embarrass a club champion with a pissy contract, or even worse, 'kill Bambi'.

Most importantly, if this is to be his last year, NOW is the time to relinquish the captaincy.

The season is lost so we are in a position to carry Kouta and allow him to reflect and enjoy the remainder an outstanding career without the burden of captaining a 'developing' side. The club is also able to use this time to identify and grow the future leaders of the club.

Let Kouta captain his last against North and then give 5 blokes 2 games each. Who? Stevens, Whitnall, Fev, Thornton and Murph?

More alarming is his style of capataincy. Today's post from The Prez highlighted footage of him from a camera in the dressing rooms (Fox Footy coverage) portraying a dismal image of him sitting on his own in the dressing rooms after the eagles game. The same happened after the Adelaide game. There was no sign of typical traits you relate to captaincy. No liaising with the team, no pats on the back for his young charges after a commendable effort, in fact, it has been quite extraordinary throughout this year to see Whitnall and to a lesser extent Stevens take on the leadership role of a captain addressing the troops during and after the game, as well as addressing the media post match and during the week. This sets off alarm bells for all of us..

the worst thing about it - was not that it was the end of the game, but that it was a half time.

even worse, at the end of the game i could understand it, given the dissappointment all would have been feeling, but at half time, he should have been talking it all up, geeing everyone up, doing his "role" as captain

it was a sorry sight to see

Word going around is that he has a broken hand and is out for 6 weeks.
Hopefully he retires

Is that because we play Sydney in Sydney?

I suggest Round 21 versus Collingwood might be better.

At least you have some respect for him and still want to see him again, even if it is for one last time. Good onya.

I don't think anyone dismisses his great achievements by suggesting one more game or for him to retire. It's just a case that the time has come for a graceful exit. But lets see him at least one more time, he's vitually retired anyway remember.

As the old saying goes "The team is bigger than the individual", and this individual was and is big.

I expect Waite to fill his shoes, as the next big thing (followed closely by Murphy, Walker and possibly next year's draft). Fevola already holds the mantle as the elite player and face of Carlton.

The good times are around the corner, 2008?... that's only a blink away.

If he has broken his hand, it would explain the footage on Fox Footy after the game that I saw.

Having said that, it does not explain his lacklustre performance over the past few weeks.

It may explain what Prez saw at half-time also.
