Sorry folks.

I bumped into the great man the other day and shook his hand to congratulate him on a great career.

Guess I don't know my own strength sometimes.....

Interesting table this one!

Most games played for Carlton – Top ten to round 11, 2006.

Craig Bradley – 375
Bruce Doull – 356
John Nicholls – 328
Stephen Silvagni – 312
Justin Madden – 287
Geoff Southby – 268
David McKay – 263
Anthony Koutoufides – 260
Alex Jesaulenko – 256
Brett Ratten - 255

Kouta should pass Swans total, but chances of passing Southby?

Is 17 posessions bad for a Forward Pocket?

Lest we forget Synbad.

We need to clarify what a defintion of supporter means because you certainly are not it.

Let Kouta determine when it is time to hang up the boots as he might surprise you and also realise that his time is up at season's end.

He have never struck me as a player who is hungry for the limelight or greedy to hold on to his past glories.

Yes he is earning $1m this year but you would be seriously deluding yourself if ANY PLAYER IN ANY SPORT WOULD SAY NOT TO THAT KIND OF MONEY.

He will hang up the boots at season's end, I have no doubt about that.

Youre right downunderchick.. i dont go to the footy to support Kouta i go to the footy to support Carlton.. you just get along to the game with your Kouta badges and let me support my club the way i want to support it eh???

Kouta didnt give a shit about the club when he was on his way to Sydney unless we gave him 5 million did he??

Such dry wit Synbad.

And such vitriol is hardly supportive of the club - sounds more like self gratification.

Your Sydney story, if true, would mean that Kouta got the shit end of the stick - no doubt punishment for his disloyality to the club.

What's your punishement Synbad?

Roughly 40 games lost to injury all up, would have been a lot more but for a couple of his injuries occuring in finals or just before finals. :(

Just for something different I agree with you Synbad. Kouta was a champion a long time ago, then held our club ransom for the salary he is on now.

He is one of the reasons the club is in predicament money wise at the moment. He cost us Hamill and numerous others we could have lured over from other clubs.

He has no pride, and even when he plays crap he makes excuses for himself. A true champion knows when he is not contributing to the team anymore, and bows out gracefully. Instead he wants to play on.

I cannot see Voss or even Buckley continuing to play while they are playing crap. Forget about the past peoples if you want to move forward be realistic.

He is just insipid at the moment and is a liability and you all know it. Someone mentioned his 17 possessions from the forward pocket. Yes this is crap when you are getting paid $1 Million bucks, and for a captain and someone of his experience its even crapper.

Sorry... but were [REDACTED] because he put a gun to our head .
You said "Lest we forget"

And i wont...

What he and Allsion took can feed the continient of Afriuca for a year.
There is no excuse in a team sport to take one fifth of the total player payment (read SALARY CAP) for yourself.
were actually suffering for that still. .. its not like we can afford it.

He cracked the shitties when we were with Nike and he wanted Adidas sponsorship.. he just has never been a sharer.
Fine to see he was a real superstar and at his best he was.
But he never showed it week in week out .. month in month out.. season in season out.. like some others.
He was never worth what a drunk Elliot gave him.
He allowed the club to suffer because of it.

I dont want the next generation learning from people like Kouta and going for the $. If theyre good enough football would look after them all very well.
If theyre smart enough they will earn a super living player footy without taking the club to the cleaners.. they wont put themselves under the greed / output spotlight (like Kouta has) and they will allow enough room in the salary cap to build a team that can win the flag.

Thats what its all about i reckon...

Succesful team.
Succesful living
Succesful and healthy life.

thats what everybody strives for...

not to soak up 1/5th of the salary cap in a 40 man squad.
He made that decision he has to pay for it. Its a 2 way street.

He signed with Adidas when we were with Adidas. It's not his fault that Carlton went with Nike.

Synbad I am not saying he is or was worth 1/5 of the TPP, but I'm not the idiot that signed him to the contract and there are not too many players out there who would say 'oh sorry Big Jack, I really don't think you should pay me a million bucks a year because that wouldn't be right".

The Kouta salary/contract saga has taught clubs the perils of signing long term deals. The only club still doing it is St Kilda with Hamill, which seems to guarantee that you will miss half the duration of your contract with an injury.

They are talking about extending his contract into 2007 so that we are not paying $1m this year, rather $500K per year.

Is he greedy if he quits at the end of the year or does he hang around for another year to help [sic] out the club?

Downunderchick.
I respect your passion .
Unfotunately for me , i dont give a razoo about bullshit anymore
What the Elliot/ Kouta/salary cap/ lack of leadership/ underperforming/ wooden spoons / 100 point thrashings have done is turn me into a realist.
No more living in lala land.. where the club is a Utopia and it can do no wrong.. and the players are Gods living on Olympus untouchable and unaccountable.

Kouta is a very rich mortal these days and his decisions have impacted on my club .. therefore on me personally.

End of story...
Ps .. there is nothing Kouta can do now outside of retiring to help this footy club.
He is a liability in every sense of the word.

Certainly is true.

I blame Elliott for being too stupid to realise that Kouta wouldn't have left mummy to go up to Sydney.

What's the difference between Kouta and Hamill?

Carlton caved in on Kouta and not Hamill.

Why did we cave in on Hamill?

Because Kouta took the money we could have paid him.

I don't blame Hamill for leaving. He was willing to take far less to stay at Carlton than St. Kilda offered as he understood that a player's price on the open market needs to be higher than what their club will pay.

Kouta on the other hand wouldn't stay with Carlton unless we matched every single dollar of what was always an ambit claim by the Swans that had as much to do with paying us back for Diesel and trying to generate the sort of cult of personality they managed with Lockett in order to promote the game up north as it did to actually wanting the guy to play for them.

Meanwhile Hamill continues to be pilloried by Carlton fans for accepting a good contract over a patently ridiculous offer and Kouta is lauded as a Carlton "legend" who "bleeds for the club" after holding out on them and not budging an inch.

Kouta was a marvel on the field at his best (long ago) but has been the worst captain the Carlton Football Club's ever had and is the greediest little shit to ever pull on a navy jumper.

Who cares?

I'm not going to remember his contract and our finances in twenty years time but the incredible things he did as a player for this club.

And Koutoufides desperately trying to prove his fitness to play in the finals in 2000. :(
