Good selection.

Glad we didn't trade him.

Shame we traded Campo. He would have been ideal.

Loved hearing 3AW's commentary team (including Robert Walls) say a few times during the game that "Camporeale's collecting his usual share of soft possessions"...... :-D :-D

I loved hearing an Ess supporting colleague saying last week that Campo should bring in some badly needed leadership

Lance is the captain out on the field anyway. So this just formalises that! A good choice and was the only choice IMO.

i thin it would have been better if we gave red a go for 2 or 3 weeks and then gave stevo a go for 2 or 3 weeks. i think that would have given us a good indication as to who is the better captain and if lance gets it after this year i hope in 2 or 3 years time he'll be joint captains with murph and then when he retires murph can be captain on his own.

I don't think anybody could honestly claim (even Synbad) that at this stage Lance is not the best captain for this football club.

Lance has been the clear on-field leader this year, so I guess it is the obvious decision.

Well done Lance.

Youd think they woul;d want to extrract as much leadership from the group as possible and allow a few blokes to have a chance at tasting it till they make their decision for next year.
Silly decision... but anyway.. we have made a few 'feel good' decisions.. nothings changed.
Perfect opportunity to plan for the future.

Might have to get used to it.
Quote:
Lance Whitnall will use his interim captaincy of Carlton as a stepping stone to lead the club as a full-time skipper in the future.

The defender was named captain of Carlton on Monday afternoon for the period injured veteran Anthony Koutoufides is sidelined.

Koutoufides, who has captained the club since 2004, was last week diagnosed with a broken hand and is expected to miss up to five matches.

Whitnall said he was 'honoured' to have been given the opportunity to lead the Blues and revealed that he harbours aspirations to replace 'Kouta' whenever he decides to move on from the game.

Suggests to me he is the future Synbad. Why would you give it to someone you were considering trading for?

I think this is a pretty huge call by the Club and says alot about Whitnall's year. Perhaps his Carlton history, performance this year, and demeanour in 2006 is exactly what the CLub wants with the young list?

ps I dont want this to be a trade Whitnall thread.

Took the words out of my mouth Headplant..

If you had no idea who was captain of Carlton and you went and watched a game, by the end of that game you would most likely say that number 8 is the leader....

Whitnall has got the gig fair and square. The players look to Lance for guidance, and he provides it.He is a natural onfield leader.I believe Lance will grow in the job and go on to be a longterm and great Carlton Football Club Captain.
Goodluck Lance.
