If the fit just isn't there, well that's it. Good on Karl, it was worth both he and CFC taking the chance...can't begrudge either party

I wonder what impact having Karl at the club did for a sponsers and members perspective.

Karl and Laurie never stood a chance when it all boiled right down.
The PACE program was gone.
A lack of strong leaders around the club.,
And a club imploding into a phase of self survival meant kids like Laurie and Karl were always going to be pushing shit uphill to make it.
They were not your stock standard kids to start of with.

Good luck to them both and every other kid drafted by the club.

Laurie was at Adelaide before he was at Carlton. Does all of the above apply to the Adelaide football club as well?

Yes, so he was.......

So would that mean we would have known his history and still drafted him in hope rather than with a REAL plan (i keep harping on plans dont i?) to turn him around ?????

(Why are answers always so obvious to people...????)

He had history before he went to Adelaide as well. Rather than typing ????? my point is that Laurie was a lost cause. You could have the best plans, leaders and programs in place and in the end he was a sandwich short of a picnic. Waste of a draft pick.

In that case we shouldnt have touched him

Alot of people turn to alcohol when problems become too much...

Karl's problem was he missed his country lifestyle, that was all he knew so too speak.

He came to Carlton and had the chance to earn big bucks.
But deep down money is not everything to everyone, while playing footy with your mates is priceless to some...

These mind games can drive a young man insane, especially when you consider how much else is out there to piece together.

Spoke fondly of Carlton ? I believe it..........Sounds to me like a young guy with a lot of regrets.Karl had plenty of talent and is still very young. For mine,it would be neglicent of the club if they at least didnt sound this guy out..........I personally know of a young guy carving it up in the AFL who at one time was 90 percent gone but just held onto his place.A real headcase who with a smidgin of faith managed to turn it around. In fact this young tyro has a very similar disposition to Karl. Its never too late, and people CAN change.I would be happy to get him down for a preseason if he showed the interest.

We have invested enough time in Karl. It would be in his best interests if he wanted to re-ignite his AFL career that he did it somewhere else. We don't have the luxury to speculate on Karl again unless of course the AFL decide to remove our draft picks again in the near future.

DOA, interesting to here.

I would be interested to know how a young player keeps grounded in the transition to AFL and when you feel like a Dolphin up a tree what is it that turns some players to collapse and others to feel strong.

Also what onus is there on the club to assist the young failed players back into their life. Fróm where I sit once a player has left the club they are just gone.
