Rightio. So 'playing the system', as the tankers like to refer to tanking, means we get three prized draft picks in the top 20 AND we get assistance to cover our shortfall in membership due to tanking.

Well that's great for the longterm success of our club - but how incredibly embarrassing.

I pray I wasn't one of the gazillions of Carlton supporters who derided St Kilda for having so many top draft picks. And laughed when Collo suggested we 'let them rot'. And squeal with delight when reminding St Kilda fans about paying out debts at 10 cents to the dollar (or whatever the figure was).

And yes, I do GET it. I would prefer a strong team in the long term over five wins this year. It's just a shame we're going to get more shit than we do already for 'buying two premierships'. Now we're just going to be the team that tanked for a few years AND got a helping hand from the AFL to get our next premiership. Thank @#$%&! I'm not one of those supporters who hang shit on the opposition (unless you support Collingwood, Essendon* or St Kilda).

QUESTION: Of the teams who've won a premiership in the last few years - which team has DESEVED its win?

Sydney? Nup, they get a cost of living allowance
Brisbane? Nope - see above
Essendon*? Nah, they were rorting the system just like us (heresay)
Port? Yep - as far as I know - the only team this century to win the premiership without a hundred top ten draft picks and/or assistance from the AFL.

Look, this is about the only footy matter I have an opinion on. I clearly see both sides of the argument, and Synbad's continual blabbering is on the money.

Personally, following sport is, for me, a passion. That means my emotions run the show, not my head. In business, there's not much place for emotion. But in sport, I can put aside logic and let my emotions run free. Synbad, I admire you for the clinical way in which you support Carlton - it makes wanting to lose easier.

The stories I love in sport are 'Rumble in the Jungle' types - rope a dope - watching the underdog find a way to win; John Landy helping Ron Clarke up in the 56 Olympics; the kiwis beating the Aussies in ANYTHING ...

I don't support Carlton to analyze their books and ponder the merits of losing to win v short term positive cashflow. I just like to watch my team win. Just like those 5000 ex-members.

I hope you are this angry towards John Elliott. The AFL had the gun pointed at Carlton and Big Jack gave them the bullets. In the end if the AFL really want to @#$%&! us over they can really @#$%&! us over. The shit we are in today stem from further back than 2002. If anyone thinks for one minute that black friday is the sole reason we are in the position we are in today then it is time to pull down the shutters.
Our club and the people appointed to run it need to take responsibility for the positon the club is currently in.

I want our kids who have known nothing but being kicked and having it hard to win a premiership and restore the MAJESTY back to this club.

And when we have enough gun kids running around for us winning stuff and being a TRUE WINNING TEAM... we will become financial all by ourselves again.. because the barracker and not just the hard core supporter will return.. and we WILL have a product that will capture the imagination of sponsors...no matter how hopeless we are in administering our club the club will sell itself.

But none of that is going to happen if we cant do what needs to be done to create the real potential to greatness!!... and greatness for a club starts with the team.

Brisbane is greatness.... and theyre in Brisbane.. and its all because of the greatness of the club over 4 or 5 years.....

Nothing to do with its century old tradition .
the past is gone..... its the AFL not the VFL now... we have won only 1 premiership to Brissys 3...and that was only because we were a great VFL club who understood how to be winners in the VFL but are stuck of ideas in the AFL..(THE single AFL premiership was still only possible because of the VFL still- Form 4s) because of our past history...

This is what is currently left on our as of today 1996 Father/Son Lance Whitnall 1998 pick 38 Fevola, 1998 pick 58 Prendergast, 1999 Pick 73 Houlihan.

No doubt woof - our late 1990's drafting and give away of draft picks was as horrid as it was key to undermining our great Club.

Look through the 2002 list and there are so many rookies / VFL players in that team that you should really all vomit.

The draft penalties of Black Friday were arugably the most severe in terms of TIMING... right when we really needed them.

Its much bigger than Black Friday. Its 10 years of mismanagement.
