If we'd won that game, we would've won seven more. I had a look through the what if machine.

I saw one of those in the tradin' post, he wanted $240 - I told him he was dreamin'.

If we can win 5,6,7 or 8 games it will be because the young blokes are developing - not because of the rejects. It will be because Simmo, Murph, JK, Blackers, Rusty, Carrazzo, McLaren, AW, Eddie, Wiggler are gettting more gametime and more experience. If this happens we should celebrate development and not wish for failure.

If we can't win 2 more games it clearly shows we need more quality and more development time and the early picks will be welcome.

It would even funnier if priority pick 18 in the 2006 draft kicked the winning goal after the preliminary final to give them the opportunity to play in the grand final

I wonder how many of the tanking advocates who watched the last 3 minutes of the WCE game really wanted us to lose and how many were really willing on the Eagles midfield to usher through those final goals.

I wonder how wed feel today watching Murphy playing for Collingood if we won one extra game last year?

We'd probably have Kennedy or someone else- maybe Dale Thomas!

Chris Judd only went at 3.

Do we want Murphy to be part of a losing culture, having only won 2-3 games in his first season? Is that going to be good for his development, playing in a side that doesn't know how to win, even in a winnable position as they were last week?

What if we'd only won 4 games in 2004, finished 3rd last, drafted Lance Franklin and he'd had a good year last year, kicking 40 goals, won us a couple of extra games.

How would we feel watching Marc Murphy running around for Collingwood?

You're dead right TruBlueBrad.

Also we may have drafted Tambling and/or Roughhead who haven't exactly set the world on fire.

But he didn't did he?? Most kids don't perform to those standards in their first few seasons. Silly argument.

Round 12 and already theres talk of tanking!

Serious guys... We got 2 gun kids at last years draft murphy and kennedy.... I'd rather see our guys make some real progress in the second half of the year...

Losing week after week will not help their development... and with half the season left.. talk of tanking!?

It's Pathetic!

Sigh - I'm still using a 'what if' abacus. I really should get with the times

Win 6/12???

Of course we should 'want' to win. We should want to win every game and do our best to win every game until the end of the season and then see where the cards fall. Que Sera Sera in my opinion.

Sounds like a grand plan to rebuild a side....

Yes, but my point is what if it had been for us rather than Hawthorn.

Of course its a silly argument :P

You seem a little bit worried Synners...

It is implicit in your posts that the club actually has a choice in the matter, i.e. the club can decide beforehand which matches it can win and which ones it cannot win. If only we were in such a position! I don't think you realise it big fella but you are actually effectively saying that if we wanted to we could go on a winning run but that we should not because instead we should tank and load up on the top draft picks...I think you should relax a bit and wait and see what happens!

Not speaking for Synbad but I think the worry is that if we do everything possible to try to win games (rather than place individual player development at the top of the priority list) there's a chance we could actually scrape three or four wins during the rest of the season.

Three or four more scrappy win at all costs wins in 2006 aint going to do nearly as much as an ADDITIONAL potential gun over the next 10 years.

You always have to worry we will arse another 2004 and shoot ourselves in the foot.

Read GWS... he spoke for me.
