Because they have seven million in the bank.. and its a better run organisation .
Also the fact that they have more supporters helps.

I believe that Essendon* will throw more at PSD#1 than we did. All due respect to Mclaren but he's hardly a prized catch or key player. Essendon* has a great history of trading for key players eg. what they threw at Lloyd to get him there was most impressive.

Elwood, Will be very curious to see what Essendon*'s membership figures are in 2007 and more importantly how they seel their failed year, no doubt.

Sheedy is already grandstanding about trade week, lets see what he catches.

Sheedy is the master salesman and appears to be able to fool more people than John Howard and George Bush which means he is going alright....
I think it will be all about the rebirth of the baby bombers etc etc and the Bombers are already tanking their way to Bryce Gibbs....they dont have our financial woes and can offer their supporters more incentives to keep the faith....Sheedy also has the happy knack/luck of being able to steer the media away from any major negative issues that affect the bombers and put the heat on another club or topic..much like John Howard.....

They are getting plenty of publicity every week and now even have the media on side vs the AFL over this armband issue.......our major story this week was about our group of young players but then you look at the front pages of the papers and its all about Heath Scotland slapping some woman at a bar..not exactly a warm fuzzy story to get the mums and dads to take out a membership for the kids is it....in comparison to Rama and the armband issue....that will probably get Essendon* some memberships.....

So what implications does this $1.5M have for Pagan?

Will the AFL attach any conditions with respect to large payouts of club terminated contracts?

Does this mean Pagan is safer or in more trouble?

As a corporation we are.
In the real world an admintrator would be called in.
In our case the AFL have to bail us out.

And there is the problem for all to see.
"ALL" our previous administrators are too blame for our current "no cash flow" problems. The inevitable was this. Lets hope that we can use the 1.5 million as a one of hit and not expect it again and again and again.
After all it's our money coming back.

Surrey a 20 million odd loan for a grandstand would be partly to blame wouldnt it?

Have you ever went out and got yourself a 20 million dollar loan ... and serviced it???

Synbad, its clear the clubs circumstances are dire, that is no secret and I have never said otherwise. What is a problem is libel laws for people asserting (and publishers of such views) that organisations are trading whilst insolvent, because it goes to the competency of the directors.

FWIW I agree wholeheartedly with your second point BECAUSE of the predicament I understand us to be in, and, philosophical differences aside, it seems no secret that the club will be stretched even further if we remain in PP territory for the next two years (meaning at least 36 losses) when the membership and match day attendances are trimmed down to the diehards.

Libel laws are for defamation on untruths.
Noting i have said about being on the brink of insolvensy is defamatory or untrue.

I even spoke about the one and a half MILLION shortfall that we dont have to pay our bills and had to go to the AFL for it.

Wed be insolvent if it were not for the grant... SIMPLE!

The club will not go down the gurgler and the clubs only hope to be a marketing success in the future is to have marketable players.
As many of them as possible.

Ive told you how i would do it.

PPs and trades for early picks in this draft and possibly next year.

There needs to be a restructure with an emphasis on what happens in 3 to 5 years from now.

Trying to stem the tide doesnt work .... and if it does the danger is were just floating around as a nothing club.

The big picture is more important than what happens this year and next.

Truth is no defence in a case of defamation.

And there was I thinking it was only 7million. Silly silly man why can't you just get with the facts. :P Ofcourse the AFL presumable underwritting the loan had nothing to do with any of this either but no will just ignore what we feel like to ignore and just keep on preaching what we feel is the topic of the week or should I say day.

Does this 1.5 million "handout" mean the AFL won't be paying us for the ongoing maintenance costs associated with Princess Park?

see???? you are silly cos you think the stand cost us 7 million...(and in your mind there is no such thing as interest)...
7 million wont even get you a nice swimmingpool Surrey...
I think you should check the facts about what the stand cost us...

Cos when you open your mouth its cringe material...

Truth alone is no defence - you also have to prove that what you said was in the public interest.

Which is a very, very grey area...
