Walls glory and pain.
Quote:
Carlton great Walls paid tribute to his wife's courageous fight with cancer, noting her battle to be with him at the induction meant everything.
Quote:
Erin Walls was diagnosed with lung cancer last year despite having never smoked. Wheelchair-bound, she was determined to be by her husband's side on a night his considerable contribution to football was recognised.
And she wants her illness to be a reminder to every young person not to smoke because she knows better then anyone what the ravages of lung cancer can do.``When the cancer was diagnosed, we were told 10-15per cent of lung cancer victims are non-smokers,'' Walls said.
``Of course you think Erin's illness isn't fair. But she doesn't dwell on it.
``She is unable to sleep at night so she sits up watching American television shows. And they upset her greatly because there are people smoking on every show.
``When we go out and she sees people smoking she asks, `Why?' Don't they know what they're doing to themselves?''
Walls admitted to being ``chuffed'' at his induction, although he wondered why, given he never considered himself a ``great player or great coach''.
Will fall on death ears!

I regard myself as very fortunate to have been with Carlton.
Hmmm, would other past stars and soon-to-be past stars share this view?
We need someone like Walls back on the board but we now understand why he doesn't have the time.
