i think we've learnt from that and we have to have a strict policy on picking up only very young players we should play real hard at this year's trade week and try to get as many early draft picks as we can, if that means giving up players like lappin or french then so be it it'll do us good for the future

I'm sure all clubs will want young players.

no what about teams like adelaide, st kilda and west coast who are pushing for a premiership i'm sure picking up teenagers isnt going to help them win a premiership but if they pick up someone like akermanis that could help them.

But we don't have Akermanis. ;)

Rumours from another forum that Barnaby French may not be there next season....and that Justin Davies is the player who was told he wont be seeing senior action this year and obviously wont be at the club next year....

There are rumours every few years on French wanting to go back to South Australia, but at his age if he wanted to go home it would be as a retiree rather than a player. Or are you saying he's on his last legs and will be retired rather than retiring? If thats the case why is he still our main ruckman?

The other forum indicated it would probably be retirement...

Let's hope this is a rumour because if isn't what the hell are we doing persisting with Barnaby when we could be making better use of our taller players?

With Davies and Saddington both LTI, promote one of the rookies and play Chris Bryan.

If the guy is not putting in the hard yards at training, bite the bullet and do what the Saints did with Capuano and sack him.

If there are players on the list [rookies included] who are prepared to work - reward them.

How do we instill discipline into the kids, if we have slackers on the track not doing the hard work and still playing footy [granted only in the Bullies]?

Similar to blackwell/murphy/carazzo, suspect disposal and not overly quick. If the club starts running out of players to cull due to contracts (deluca, teague?, etc) then he might have to make way - particularly if we manage to nab extra draft picks which can be utilised on midfielders.....

You're probably right. Why keep guys at the club if we have no intention of playing them? Problem is that after the Saints did that they brought in a new rule prohibiting that.

What trailblazers the Saints are and how annoying for us.

Maybe the AFLPA should have a little rule in their fat greedy rule book about players who do not put in 100%, have the option of being delisted from their clubs at any and all time during the season so that another one of their players can benefit from actually being committed to wanting to be an AFL player.

Teague has another year on his contract to run - so he'll be there in 2007.

Davies has a debilitating back injury - struggles to sit down for long periods. Whether he remains there in 2007? Doubtful.

Bannister - whilst not a favoured son of DP, is playing himself into a regular spot. His future will be determined (obviously) over the coming weeks. But, if you look closely at him, is not the worst on the list by a country mile. Still under 25 so he has a case to be retained if he sustains a decent level of form for the next 6 to 8 weeks.
