Small snippet in The Aged newspaper says that the AFL Commission officially approved the $1.5 million on saturday night and told the Blues yesterday - nothing like letting the club stew for a few days waiting on the result.

It had been nutted out ages ago... its just official now.

Thats the big question TB

Synbad - my mail is that the conditions for payment have only just been worked through; that it is highly conditional and the funds must be used for certain purposes.

I'm not sure if that was one of the conditions, BV

The AFL may have just said - here's the cash, you're going to be crap for a while, go have a great time with the boys....who can tell?

so we have to pay the money back in some way according to whatever the conditions of payment are or they might just give it to us for keeps?

The legends stand is the main reason for our debt due to 2 reasons:

1. It was expected to increase memership to at least 30,000 as seated ground capacity was to increase to 32,000. It was hoped that in fact a waiting list would occur as our membership would soar (according to the plan). This was based on the eagles/crows model and one that Geelong (as a regional centre) adopted successfully. Of course by having a waiting list the vale of the membership would increase, thus increasing revenue

2. Colonial Stadium/Telstra Dome - It was planned that Princes Park was to be the boutique stadium for the lesser attended AFL games (planned by the Carlton board mind u). VFL/Waverly Park was a dog with fleas. The WHAM! The dome is built and Princes Park is the dog with fleas!

Basically we put a huge bet on the roulette table and lost. No more bets!

Blues get cash but miss priority pick.

Because you are too stupid to even be able to think of a reason why they shouldn't be changed.

Our membership is down 15% and the best way to revive this is with on field success. The AFL are giving us money with one hand while taking away an opportunity to be more successful and therefore generate more members, cash flow etc with the other.

Makes no sense but not overly surprising :?

Come off it. They are not approving a request to change a rule that applies to all parties. They are not taking away anything, just not agreeing to a request. Nor should they. Im sick of exceptions.

What we need is to do some great recruiting... like any other bottom 8 team.

Haven't heard the club complain and think they probably never thought they were a chance but it was worth asking.
