Marc Murphy is out for at least 2-3 weeks...and that's the good news scenario. Tests tomorrow will confirm or not if the shoudler actually popped out and then went back in again which is a minor dislocation of the shoulder - hopefully there isn't sustained damage - but it there is he may need minor surgery; and I think that would pretty much end Murph's season.

Fev's knee is still sore - scans were done on structural damage last week and whilst he was cleared of this, there might be some floating cartilidge in the knee and I wouldn't be surprised if he had a couple of weeks off and came back for the Essendon* game. The last thing Fev needs is a bit of scar tissue hampering his kicking prowess.

Matty Lappin might not be in great form - but remember he's still not quite right after injuring his shoulder earlier in the season.

He should have been rested last night.

There was no upside to him playing sore and maybe aggravating a minor injury.

Spoke to Murphy and Setanta this morning and they both saying he was hoping to be back in 2 weeks...Fevvy isn't right like you say and his knee comes up very swollen after the games...Would definately be a good idea to rest him for a game or two...Doc knows best so we will see how long he is really out for...That's just from the horses mouth...Oh and Setanta is one of the nicest guys going around...Very easy to talk to and just an all-round good guy..

Bad news is we don't have anything to replace Murphy on our senior list.

Sporn, Chambers or McGrath are our only smalls, unless a miracle occurs at MC Hammer oval and the coaching commitee actually promote a rookie.

I thought Carrots and Blackers did a very good job of "replacing" Murphy last night. I agree we will miss his class and poise but surely someone like Flint would get a chance from his absence...?

Ponkstar: tbh i dont think flint is anywhere near ready, yeah he is playing well in the VFL, leave him there to develop more, but the big point is he is not a midfielder, and also his body is like a 15 year old kids it would be throwing the kid to the wolves it would be silly, on the other hand it might be an opportunity to give Jesse Smith a go, but we will have to wait and see how he goes today

also, i am listening to the Richmond versus Collingwood game and i am just happy that Murphy didnt get injured like Newman did today another Nathan Brown leg break, through both bones of the bottom leg.


A few weeks off might be good for Murph, he has come into our team and has played a lot of minutes all year a spell might be what the doctor ordered.

So why not rest him?

There's floating bone around the shoulder. Would only cause minor discomfort...operation will probably take place at seasons end...at the end of the day it's his decision...but doubt creeps into the head when there is a part of your body that's suspect...and that affects confidence.

Did anyone notice Copeland bumping Murphy's shoulder last night after he'd injured it?

Dirty prick. Carrazzo came in and got rid of him. Would have been nice to see one of the big fellas charging in there though.

I was more curious as to why the trainers did not get in sooner to attend to Murph.

He was holding his arm for a good while after the incident and in the middle of play.

When you have a precious commodity like Murphy, you swoop in and get him out of harms way - quickly.

If we need to elevate a midfielder to cover Murph's temporary absence, we should consider Ryan Jackson. He has played well for the Bullants (in the best for the last two games).

Possibly the time to test out Jesse Smith as a player worthy of a spot on the senior list.

He has shown a little bit in the last year and a half playing in the Bullants (could have have shown more in the games I've seen IMO) but the club needs to make a decision on him between now and the end of year when his 2 year rookie time expires.

Jackson has another year on the rookie list so the urgency to see him at this level isn't as great.

Are we able to elevate anyone anyway?? Are any of the outs gone for more than 8 weeks starting now???

not sure if it was seen on telly but mepry was cming of with a trainer and i think the ball was bounce near him and murph went charging back towards the contest. once the ball got cleared murphy went straight off.

Carlton have had a spot available for rookie elevation all season and have elected not to utilise this partly for financial reasons and partly because no player really warranted elevation.

Unfortunately for Smith, with his severe injury during pre-season, has not really shown his best form all year and doesn't deserve elevation and he will probably be delisted come seasons end.
Aisake, Batson - No
Flint - his impressive early season form has deserted him following his injury lay-off - No
Jackson has been steadily improving and Ryan excites me more than what Flint does. I reckon he's a certainty for elevation eventually and he is showing more than enough to suggest we have a decent on-baller with Jackson. We need midfielders. Probably wont be elevated in the short term

Lynchie over on TBV reports that he just heard Murphy being interviewed on SEN by Mark Doran and the news from the MRI is:

He walked out with a smile on his face. He is confident of not requiring any surgery whatsover but is going back to see the club doctor. Maybe just a couple of weeks rest will be required.

Matty Lappin was also at the same clinic in Prahran having an MRI scan. He would not reveal on where though?
