Just read that Pagan said that anyone who thought Copeland's tackle was an attempt to take Murphy out of the game was eating too many 'romance chocolates'...

Great Paganism and right on the money

In the old days John Nicholls would have "filed" that one away for future reference and Robert Copeland would be brushing his teeth via his clacker.

Unfortunately these days are we going to see anyone fly the flag in future.

Actually I am of the opposite opinion.

Brisbane players have said all week that they will target Murphy. Leppitsch was joking about it on TV.

Big hero Copeland done 2 or 3 tackles where after the tackle he drove Murphy into the turf. Could have done a neck injury if he landed on his head. Remember who took Caracella out.

So in my eyes I see it as deliberately trying to injure a player. Not just hurt them, injure them.

Copeland should be charged with Unduly rough play or bringing the game into disrepute. Even if he gets let off I dont care. It needs to be shown by the AFL that they wont tolerate players being intentionally targetted

Nothing wrong with the tackle at all. Murphy was hurt by the way he fell. We really will have a game for sooks only if this type of fair tackle is removed from the game.

I'm as dissapointed as anyone to see Murphy injured, but this type of incident is part & parcel of the game.

Good point, Agro. I would like to see someone step up to plate next time and pummel that Brisbane player copeland into the ground with a hip and shoulder that sends him into the next stratosphere.

The filing away should still occur even if big nick isn't playing.

Nothing in the tackle apart from Copeland trying to man it up a bit on a first yearer.
Copeland will always be a shit player, while murphy will be a star.

Notting took out Caracella, not Copeland.

Was it Copeland that also tagged Deledio earlier this year?

Thats going to happen to young star players especially when you dont have any cover for them or anyone to even up the score..
The tackle was intended to hurt Murphy not just to bring him down..a couple of our little blokes flew the flag but none of our bigger players did much. If we are ever going to be a decent team we need the odd player/s with more mongrel in them.....

Maybe Houlihan can do us the honours.

The tackle was perfectly fine.
The resultant injury is a terrible blow for Murph and the club, but he showed the size of his heart when he layed a solid tackle himself almost immediately after he was injured.

I'm glad he knocked the Lions back and came to the Blues.

Of course Murphy was targetted. What did you guys expect ? Dont blame Brisbane for being shitty. If the boot was on the other foot i would not only expect, but demand he got the treatment.Thats footy folks.Wont do Murph any harm, and in fact will toughen him up.Its tough, hard, ruthless footballers that will get you a flag, and the sooner we get a few the better. As our good mate Agro reminds us,Big Nick would have seen to it eventually. The sooner we redevelop this mentality the better.

The reason he did his shoulder was the way he landed. Nothing wrong with it IMO. Just unlucky.

Spot on...it was a good tackle. There's no animosity between Copeland and Carlton - there won't be in the future - Rob Copeland is a good footballer...I really like the way he plays. This is in no way even comparable to Darren Milburns' attack on Stephen Silvagni. It's footy - and that's life...it unfortunate - but it happens.

The upside is hopefully Marc can sit in the box with the coaching staff for a few of the remaining games and learn a few things. I'm still of the opinion that he will win the NAB Rising Star Award. I can't see anyone else in the comp who has 'made it' like Murph has. Malthouse thinks Shaw is a certainty for it...I'll categorically state now that if the likes of Kevin Bartlett (on the judging panel for the Award) give their votes to Shaw...they will never live it down.

as much as well all hope that it is impossible for them to give it to a player who only played 12 full games, especially when i personally thought heath shaw was going to win it anyway and if he doesnt there's still raines and pearce. if any miracle was meant to happen, they should consider changing the rule for next year and making it anyone who is a teenager regardless of how many games they've played.

Shaw is like his brother, apple crumble when the heat is applied.

yeah which is why i was so pissed that he'd even be a contender for it because all his disposals are cheap across half-back and plus he's playing in a good team whereas murphy had to earn every single possesion he got and had to play in a bottom team.

The tackle wasn't a problem but I distinctly saw Copeland "working it over" afterwards and it was not until Carazzo ran in and gave him a shove that Murph was given a reprieve.

Shades of the Nick Riewoldt incident.

Murphy was definitely in Brisbane's sights on Saturday Night.

As I hinted at earlier in this thread if our leadership group have any intestinal fortitude Copeland should certainly know about it next time the two teams play.
