I'll always remember him putting Wallis on his arse in that drawn game in 1993 after he was trying to intimidate Doro. Doro just looked at Wallis with the look "In your dreams sunshine! and put him down with just a one handed shove! :)

We could have used his and Dean's aggression in the Grand Final to take care of Wallis's cheap shots.

I still believe he retired one season too soon because of the stigma attached to his suspension IIRC for kicking and we could have used another big body in the finals in 1994. He returned to the WAFL where he kicked 352 goals in four seasons and 107 goals for South Fremantle in 1997. :)

Doro may have stuck up for Hogg after he was flattened, but he was scared of Lockett and he described Lockett as being huge.

And his shoulders were and are as wide as an axehandle!

Great comments guys

BUT PLEASE help me out will you?

Fair enough I'm the Blueseum loser and I'm the most likely to enter something into it, but if you know something about Dorotich, try to fill in the blanks for me? I've got time to do some data entry but adding research to it will just kill me... OK?

So,
What kicking incident / stigma?
Was it Richmond or St Kilda?
Please confirm he muffed a simple kick-in.. from a behind?
Were there any games where he beat these great CHF's? If so, who against + year, if possible.
Could he kick with his right?

I reckon we lost that game by 3 points and it was definitely richmond.

Yeah Wayne Campbell kicked the goal to win them the game. Doro missed from the goal square

It was 92 and it cost us a spot in the finals!!

My lasting memory of Dora goes back to a reserves game in the late 80s. Dora was struggling big time, and was being tried at full forward... but was dropping everything that came his way. It was just before quarter time, and Dora had dropped another sitter, and my Dad gets up and says in his (reasonably) thick Belfast accent "These bastards, they're fookin Dorotich up you know!"... I think 22 of the 25 people at PP all turned to look at my Dad as one... he sat back down and said sheepishly "well... they bloody are!"

This was about the first time I heard my Dad swear properly...

Dora mucked up a kick against Richmond in 1992 from about 15 meters out in the dying minutes. We lost by under a goal and missed out on the finals by one game.

Also an infamous incident involving a nightclub and his pants but really who hasn't had one of those....really......
However-
He kicked 5 goals against Adelaide in 1991 in round 2 after they thrashed Hawthorn in their first match in Adelaide. was given BOG on radio.
2 brilliant games against St Kilda in 1992. The 1st at Princes Park where he held Plugger goaless in 2nd half as we pipped the Sainters after they had a big lead in the 2nd quarter.
2nd game at Waverley where he went into the forward line after half time and kicked a few goals and sparked Carlton into a magnificent 12 goal 3rd quarter after trailing by 4 goals at half time!!! (glory days indeed).

He got 12 brownlow votes in 1992. 2 votes vs st kilda round 6. 3 votes vs St kilda round 21. - Go dora!

From memory he polled more Brownlow votes then any other Carlton player that year.

Was the "2nd St Kilda game" in 1992 or 1993?
I couldn't go because I was at home with the flu.
We got creamed in the first half and were down by about 4-6 goals.
Dorotich got moved from CHB to CHF and changed the game.
That was the standard move in those days, like John Worsfold's, Adam Hunter to the forward line now.
Changed the game, and we proceeded to kick about 18 goals to 4 in the 2nd half.
Destroyed them (when they were good too).

Just found this:

Carlton 1.3 4.4 15.7 18.14 122
St Kilda 5.3 7.10 9.10 12.15 87
Carlton won by 35 pts
Date: 09-Aug-1992 Att: 50,883 Venue: Waverley Park*

Round 21 - 1992.

17 scoring shots to 8 in first half in StK's favour.
24 shots to 10 thereafter, our way.
Massive turnaround.

One of my all time favourite footy matches barrel47, wot a great comeback!

A link to his ABC commentary stuff here mentions his stellar end to his career at South fremantle where he led goalkicking and co captained the premiership side in his last year.

Dorotich was a gun in 86 and then in 87 got smacked around the head in a couple of consecutive games and was never the same again. Was lucky to play in 87 grand final as his confidence had plummeted, hence the reason Walls started him at full forward.

I've got to disagree there....Dorra went into the forward line essentially because Rhys started at CHB on Dermie.

Even 'tho he was a CHF in the West before he arrived at Carlton; it was considered to be a shock move by Wallsy together with Hunter to the HF flank; especially in a Grand Final.

Before the opening bounce; Dom alerted the central umpire that Hawthorn had too many players in the square, and Dom got a free kick before the ball had even been bounced.

He kicked to a pack and Hunter marked, only to miss the relatively easy shot on goal....Kenny wasn't the most reliable goal kicker!

Jon Dorotich....DOB: 27-04-1962....193cm and 90kg....played with Carlton 1986-93....132 games....103 goals....guernsey No. 6....from South Fremantle.
