Does anyone remember Peter White? Born 11 July 1970. Played a handful of games in 1989.

I am under the impression he died in the early 90s. I think he drowned in a boating accident. Can anyone remember?

If confirmed, could this be added to his bio in the Blueseum?

I have a vague recollection of this also, however the lines are blurred as I had a teacher called Peter White who died at roughly the same time in a cycling accident.

I'd have thought it well & truly belongs verbs. If the Club doesn't like it when they take full ownership, then they can cut it, but for our purposes the Blueseum tells the story of all those who wore Navy Blue. With that in mind, it belongs.

which reminds me... Ineed to confirm what happened to Rhett Baynes. Is it true that he took his own life?

From memory Peter White came from near Heathcote and may have been recruited from the Bendigo Football league.
My memory also recalls him perishing in a boating accident, possibly with other members of the family.

The White's are very well known football people around the HDFL.

I also remember him for kicking a late goal in a game against Fitzroy to make us miss our footy bet margin.

Unfortunately Rhett Baynes did take his life. I think he may have committed a crime soon before which was a bit of a cry for help.

Cheers guys. No doubt Peter was only in his early to mid 20s when he passed away. I don't think the Club would mind that being added to his bio.

I have an '89 Record which says he was from Mt Pleasant.

The first I heard of Rhett's death was on one of these forums. Did he play seniors?

The long forgotten memories and facts are what can really add to the Blueseum in my opinion.

Baynes did play seniors - there was an era between Fitzpatricks retirement and Maddens emergence where we went through a few ruckmen.

A guy called Brown played a few games as well - I think he wore no 30 and may now be a headmaster at one of the private schools. He was quoted in the papers in the last couple of years regarding how much footy school kids are playing these days (too much).

Brown was a tall blonde guy? Maths teacher? If so he was my high school maths teacher he went to teach at some private school mid 80's and I vaguely remember him being on the carlton list

That would be Rohan Brown whom we recruited from the Amateurs at the time(was a budding Ruckman in the VAFA at the time).

He was ordinary at best, a bit on the short side to be a ruckman, and not much of a mark either. Played in a few night comp games and maybe a dozen senior games.

May have also seen the likes of David Honeybun and Jamie Dunlop during that era as well when it came to ruckmen.

Rhett had tree trunk legs and was likened to John Nicholls.

The end for Rhett came during an Escort Cup night game at Waverley - he was not playing and for some reason Jack Edwards (Channel 7 commentator) was interviewing him on the boundary at half time and asked him the usual questions and Rhett went into a tirade about Wes Lofts and the Match Committee 'knifing' him and not giving him a go - amazing piece of television, Jack was gobsmacked and threw back to Peter Landy and Lou in the commentary box - I dont think he played another senior game afer playing the first 11 games of the season.

I believe Rhett suffered from some mental condition either manic depression or extreme paranoia - sad case.

Rhett Baynes died,i didn't know that,he was a pretty good player in WA,i think he didn't get a fair run at Carlton,but we had a pretty good side back then,he would in top 10 picked if he was playing today,compare to this lot. I didn't even know Peter White passed away.

Mt Pleasant is a club which plays in the Heathcote league.
The actual town is called Toolleen. A one pub stop on the Northern Highway.

The Whites have been champion football people for generations in that area. (Playing, coaching, administration etc)

I actually saw him play his best game for us against the Sydney Swans at the SCG which from memory we won by a point.
Aside from that performance, he struggled at Carlton. The boy had HUGE wraps on him in WA - we had been trying to get him accross for some time and there was a fair bit publicised about him in the Inside Football magazine which in those days was the weekly transfer rag.

My sad memory of Rhett Bayne's passing was that he gassed himself....the pressures of life got too much for him.

Peter White indeed was from Mt.Pleasant; and played for Carlton in two stints; 1989 and 1991.

His stats were OB: 11-07-1970....178cm and 76kg....played 3 games for 1 goal.

I'm watching him Bayne's play quite well against the Bulldogs (rather than re-watching the weekend's replay).

He's playing well indeed, in this game from 1986.
