Our field kicking is deplorable - time after time when we kick we kick far too high allowing the opposition defenders the easiest of opportunities to spoil.

Crumbing ability - we do not have any players who can read a ball off the pack - I have never seen a team pick up so many crumbs off the pack (on the full) like Geelong did today - they killed us in that department.

Carazzo goal of the year and miss of the year in one game - so damn frustrating. :x

Spot on AGRO. We cannot hit a target, we either go over their head, the ball bounces a few feet before them or Fev is forced to take diving marks. The only consolation was that Geelong copied us after a while.

So many times in a crumbing situation we're not goal side of our opposition or our players run past the ball too worried about the Geelong player(s) without the ball than the one about to get it. Chapman kicked a goal in this exact situation and slipped straight through Walker's attempted tackle.

In the first quarter and a bit I dont think Geelong took one mark inside 50, everything was coming through crumbing, obviously Ablett, or goals on the run. So what do I see.....French standing inside the defensive 50  Only then, when they started using King through the middle of the ground, did Geelong start taking marks inside 50.

I'm still trying to decide if that or Russell/Kennedy/Blackwell being on the bench for the majority of the 3rd quarter was the more bewildering coaching move.

The young players haven't picked up the tempo of AFL yet so they haven't got a settled mindset to think clearly & clinicly. It's all rush in their minds. Just haven't got the poise & experience yet.
Time on the ground will improve that together with proper training tecniques

Carltons list really is that bad.
They only time Carlton threatens to win or even be competitive is when Brendan Fevola has a big game.
While there have been some encouraging individual performances this year, notably Marc Murphy and Kade Simpson, as a team Carlton is as far away from being competitive and playing finals as it was 3 years ago.
The backline is very bad. Duds and one-game wonders even kick a bag on Bret Thornton. The midfield gets slaughtered every week. The 2 ruckmen are useless. and with the exception of Fevola, the forwardline fires blanks.
No matter how bad the opposition is going, you can be guaranteed they will have Carltons measure. Worst side since Fitzroy no doubt.

The side suffers from a lack of structure...

The players aqre playing on instinct but no confidence...

The days of using the list as an excuse are going rapidly. Our midfield's young but developing, our defence is better and our forward line has always been pretty good, although we have a few missing. With Murphy (out unfortunately) Simpson, Bentick Blackwell, Walker, Carrazzo, Russell, all who have taken big individual steps this year, on top of Stevens , Scotland, Betts and Houlihan, the midfield is at least starting to take some shape. Plus there's Waite, Fisher (both out sadly), Kennedy, on top of the improved form of Wiggins, Lappin, when he pulls his finger out, up forward with Fevola. It's still the future more than the present admittedly but no way we should not be at least getting some wins. but we are getting none!! On top of that we may have have the AA FF, possibly AA CHB, an outside chance of Scotland making AA (having a great year), on top of at one stage until injury, the NAB Rising star. Anyone who remotely thinks we that bad on paper, and as bad as Fitzroy is either talking with emotion after yesterday or simply has no idea. I know where the blame lies, many metres up in the coaching box. Time to go Denis Pagan.

Look Fitzroy was not a bad team on paper either...

the problem was there was this stench of death and they all knew it.

In actual fact there were some absolute champions at Fitzroy over their last few years... alot jumped ship.. others were sent to the Lions...

Our problem is we do lack talent. We have a shallow talent pool.
We lack senior players who can drag the younger ones over the line.
And we lack a team structure.
We have no shape when were playing games of football and we lack confidence.

Oh, we have senior players, but their confidence has also gone.. Stevo (called a bludger on the radio v GFC), Lance (where was he all day v GFC), Hoops (pulled a couple out but too late) .. the newbies won't pull anything out because of the lack of leadership as above ..

In short - fkd if I know what to do .. bring on 2013 ...

What is it that the "young" players will learn from that game exactly? On the young point only 4 were 20 years of age or younger that played - not a huge number. BTW Carazzo and Bentick have now had a senior taste for 2 years they don't look like they are moving forward.

I agree with the poor leadership call wholeheartedly.

It was even more obvious when I watched the Bulldogs-Eagles game last week. Similar to ours, the Eagles came out breathing fire in the last quarter and piled on the pressure like they did to us. At that time who stood up for the Dogs? The leaders! Johnson, Montgomery, Rohan Smith and Scott West all vital in the last quarter and when the pressure was on steadied the ship.

Where were our leaders that day??? The kids panicked, understandably but we needed a lot more from some of our leaders but we got none! That can almost be the difference between winning and losing and on that day, I thought it was (along with the obvious class of the Eagles).

Bit harsh on AB & carrots there RW! I'm pretty sure neither of them have played 30 games yet & you are already writing them off! Give them a break.

anyone who bags Bentick knows nothing about the game.

He is the only player we have that puts his head over the ball for 100 minutes and does alot of work noone else would/could do....

Carazzo on the other hand isnt played properly...he is not being played to his strengths like so many others.

AB is one of our very few true leaders along with Simmo ...and they're both only 21yo. Both have gone about setting a work ethic example brilliantly. Nothing but praise for them. Carrotts just doesn't have enough quality support.

I'm inclined to agree with you on both points Synners.

AB tries his guts out with very little support.

And Carrots is being wasted at half forward. I'd play him in the middle or off half back.

Carrots has been moved upfield like Wiggins as we have no other leading forwards. They are the best option to get the ball from half back to within range of goal. They are doing very well at it, for mine.

DeLuca, Kennedy are getting swamped so these little guys are the main avenues to goal. We are a one trick wonder without Waite, Fisher and Whitnall up forward.

Carrots is also tagging the main driving defender for the opposition, Hunt and Guerra are 2 of his scalps. If only he had have kicked that goal...

slo mo.. we can both see it... Denis likes playing his as some kind of tagger....

If youre a ball winner and you tag for long enough youll end up being a nothing.
Should be part of our onball rotation.

As far as Bentick is concerned.. its amazing what this guy has to do week in week out for us....

He actually shouldnt have to spend every minute of every game under every pack... i dont think there is another player in the AFl who has to do that... and if there is.. (doubtful) he isnt 20/21 and doing it..

Sounds logical.. so Carrots is a better player today than he was 2 years ago then right????
EVERYBODY at Carlton is some kind of tagger... without exception...

We are the tagger kings....

Carrazzo SHOULD be playeed in the midfield and allowed to find the ball (which is what he does) and help us gain positive possession of the footy so we can move the ball inside 50s with meaning.

Fancy having 2 guys in our forward line .. as taggers and Eddie as the guy who chases defensively...
No wonder we have little up forward without Fev.. who is also having to chase his bloke too far up the ground because everybody knows Fev has been told to chase.. chase.. chase...

Pathetic logic really!!!

In Carrazzo's entire midfield junior days he was a defensive midfielder - able to take a player out and get it himself. I've never heard of him as this great individual ballwinner you claim he is?

Id say Carrazzo is a better player than 2 years ago, but whats your point?

Im not getitng in to an argument about what else a player could do, its all circular. Carrazzo has been good in a special role but his role or otherwise was not why we lost yesterday, wasn't why we dropped our heads. Its goes back to some of your other pet issues - poor leadership across the squad, and poor decision making when entering the 50.
