Last round Murphy was injured and will more than likely lose the NAB Rising Star award.

This week Carrazzo kicks goal of the year only for Aaron Davey to top it tonight.

When your down, your down

Would've preferred it if Carrots had just kicked the one from 20m out.
too many early errors (and a few freaky things) made us drop our heads by the 2nd quarter

I used to know this little half cast kid that used to kick freakish goals from the boundry and then miss the ones in front .

He currently on workers comp up at shepperton with a bad back

Murphy, Wate and Fisher were out.

I can't stick up for Stevens any longer, but lets say he was a below average performance offensively and defensively. Doesn't do the star things anymore.

Geelong got first use of the ball for the rest of the game after half way of the 2Q, because our rucks were weak and at times non existent.

Our rucks were not competitive, let alone defensive around the ground. Geelong's linkmen were their ruckmen King and Ottens.

Use of the bench was wasteful.

Our goalkicking was horrible (but not as bad as last week). Could have at more goals. Can't always rely on Fev.

Looks like we'll be playing yet another side coming off an unexpected loss next week.

doesn't really matter. every club in the league has carltons measure regardless of their winning/losing streak.

To further your point Abaddon, which may have been a throwaway line, but yes - if Fevola doesn't mark it, we have to work very very hard or be very lucky to score a goal. Opposition clubs know this and have for some time. Fev was 1 on 2 minimum (after Q1) on the weekend - it must be very easy as an oppoentn Coach to win against us without other options. Kennedy is young and will be a gun but we just have no other options. Deluca is not a marking target - once a game does not make you a target. Our ability to break the lines running forward or find another target remains pretty poor. List fault, Coach fault or player fault?

I think our defensive protection of the corridor was pretty poor. Normally this would be Whitnall's bread & butter but he was off hunting down the leads.... and probably having his worst game of the year. For the tactically minded - is that due to Geelong's moves?

Manning up on King was horrendous. French, French, French. Take a week off big fella, its clear you're labouring.

Oh... and I know many of you have given up on Sporn... but when did his hands get so bad? In 2002 he looked as though he had great hands, but at the moment he's dropping the soap and looking out who's behind him. It's really sad for him & us to see.

 - he should start with more conventional pick-up techniques

Molsey,

I think without Fister and Waite up forward there is no contested marking support for Fev and Kennedy. However this is a short term problem and hopefully next year we will have more marking options in attack. However I thought it was the lack of crumbers which really stood out.

I know that Simpson Murphy and Betts can fill this role but Murphy and Simpson are needed upfield and Eddie's opponents drag him away from the goal and he is still getting the miles into his legs. Don't really have another forward flank or pocket goal kicker on the list at present. Too many holes to fill in the team and with the draft it just takes time.

As for our players some seem to get scared when lining up for goal. Whether that is confidence or technique I'm not sure. If it's confidence then it will turn around and if not then there are other options at season's end and we will just have to keep turning over players until we find one's that can do the job. However there are also a lot of other positions to fill with IMO a key position defender a ruckman, a rebounding defender and another onballer or two or more a higher priority at present.

He had confidence back then.

McGrath being best on ground for us and still kicking 4 behinds says alot about the game.

Far too many misses in front were embarrassing given how many possessions it took to actually score.

I felt for Walker at quarter time. He probably thought he could keep up with Ablett but there is a gap in the class stake.

Special mention to DeLuca's almost specky.

If Sporn's performance did not warrant a rookie being elevated in place of him, I am not sure what did.

Simpson was great - Stevens not so great.

Scotland did the old spinning around in a circle looking for someone to kick it to - never a good sign for us.

All in all - a shocking display that I pray was a really glorified tanking!

Game Plan....

I think DP gets the players trying and contesting etc., but he persisted with the kick it long to Carey game plan for three years before he realised Carey wasn't there, now he has the chip, chip ring around the rosy style that most other clubs mastered years ago and have gone way beyond, what about a game plan that tries taking the ball forward!!! Protect thje ball carrier and run towards the goals, try and get it to Fev before he has 4 opponents. About the only stat we'd be leading the comp in (apart from clangers) would be U turns.

I thought Setanta was promising and showed great pace but one glaring time he got the ball burned off an opponent and then had to U turn as there was no-one ahead. It happens all the time. We are so slow at moving the ball. If you were new to the game you could be excused for thinking there was a rule that you can't go beyond the centre until the opposition has all moved into your forward line, or until you have had ten kicks. And if we play Setanta, use him on the way out, give it to him, tell him to run and kick it to a set point.

Have our MC heard of set plays? Strategically we are so far off the mark. I was very much against sacking Brittain and thought he should have been given his last year, and then we could have got a modern strategic coach like Eade. DP has his strengths but strategy and proactivity are not amongst them, and no-one on the MC seems to cover his weaknesses.
