Bondi - please take it as light-hearted or mirthful; I'm not a negative or attacking poster.
Mirthful, roguish....doesn't matter. We've had some healthy debate you and I over the last couple o days. Did you say "Not negative"....what about my poor old Prendergast argument....shot down...dismissed...just being jaunty Molsey. Both Bryan and Prenders (again) showed something today in the VFL it seems. But so did a number of kids.
Your philosophy to play the kids and stop the second chance philosophy has merit...and I'm convinced of that. But we should be careful what we consider as chances. For eg Bannister and Wiggins, did they have previous chances?. I'm not a fan of the Wiggo, he's not the future for me either, but you've gotta appreciate the improvement he's shown.
Well it's all about the kids. Future=Kids.
That's all Pagan has got to work with, the kids, and they do need a lot of work. As Sinners says we need a bit of everything atm. Fortunately, the group of kids today are lightyears ahead of the kids in 2002, and there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I don't really know enough about what Pagan does behind closed doors, but I'm sure he is doing as much, if not more, than other coaches would have/ could; Neil Craig aside. Everyone at the club, however, has to take the next step though and improve.
I can't wait for the kids to start demanding the ball and commanding respect of their opponents. But as I said they need alot of work.
Why are we one dimensional? I don't know. Maybe because only Fevola can do what it takes. But what I do know is that Pagan will have his work cut out, making these kids bigger, stronger, faster, and I don't think he's the man to do that. We need specialist conditioning coaches to fast track physical development. Plural. We have too many kids for just a couple of good coaches.
Adjustment to the tempo of AFL comes natural for Murphy, but as for the others, we have to expose the kids to this level of footy as much as possible, if they/we are going to find out if they're going to step up. My bet is a lot of them will next year and the year after that.
Goodonya.
