I think most of us feel the same way.
Is it possible to send a card or flowers or similar on behalf of Carltons online community?

I'm in for a few bucks if a fund is started for that...

Or is it Wallsy's choice that a donation be made to a particular cancer research foundation instead of large flower gifts to the family?

I'd back a modest bunch of flowers, and a card, and a donation, depending on funds available.

Sad news.

I would also throw a bit in for a card and some flowers.

I've only just heard this news. So sad.

Sympathies to Wallsy and his family.

News like this certainly puts Carlton's troubles in perspective.

Should you happen to read this, Rob, I just want you to know that having been married to my soulmate for at least as long as you were to Erin, I have some small understanding of what you are going through.

We are all thinking of you right now Big Feller.

Erin is at peace at last - and she will never really leave you.

Very sad. The dignified way that Wallsy has handed himself throughout his wife's illness is such a credit to this great Carlton man.

Would need to check out if flowers are being accepted (even though it seems whenever no flowers are specified you seem to get twice as many).

If someone contacts Robert and verifies a charity he'd like to donate to I'd be in.

The Walls family has requested that in lieu of flowers - donations be made to 'Lungevity'...they have a website for sufferers of lung cancer - www.lungevity.com.au ...Brochures will be at the funeral on Thursday for those to donate.

Alternatively... http://www.lungnet.com.au/paypal_donation.html

Erin, a football wife extraordinaire - Robert Walls.
Quote:
Just before Erin's passing, two things gave her great joy. My induction into the AFL Hall of Fame made her really proud. For all she was going through, I was humbled by the pride Erin had in me. She was determined to get to the night. We were supposed to leave at 11pm but she insisted we stay till after midnight. It would be our last night out together.

The second related to our only grandchild, Tara, who is the joy of our life. Tara turned two the day before Erin died. Rebecca and her husband Dean, who is a Tigers supporter, knew Grandma and Pa wanted Tara to be a little Blue. But we didn't dare act without their permission. A couple of weeks ago, they gave the OK. In a flash, I cleaned out the Carlton merchandise shop. Rebecca dressed Tara up in a Blue beanie, scarf, windcheater and gloves and sent her into Grandma's room. It brought a huge smile to Erin's face.

At the weekend, the Brisbane Lions, Carlton, Richmond and the Western Bulldogs wore black armbands as a mark of respect to my wife. Thank you. Erin never thought she was special. Those who knew her know she was.

I love this bit:
Quote:
Eventually, I asked Erin to come to watch me play. I was keen to impress and put together four pretty good games. She said nothing. Finally, I asked whether she thought I played well. She said she didn't know. I said I'd taken plenty of marks and kicked quite a few goals. Erin replied: "Isn't that what you're supposed to do?"

I came to realise that my on-field exploits would never impress her. Erin would sit with my mum, who for years had taken my quarter-by-quarter statistics. Whenever I asked Erin to record my stats, it appeared from her Football Record that I only got a couple of kicks for the game. There's no doubt that the coffee and chats affected her concentration.

Lovely piece Robert and a great tribute.

There is no doubting where Robert's loyalties are, its a testament to his professionalism, courage and objectivity that they never enter into his media comments and articles.

Very sad news. Footballs fails in comparison to real life situations and events. Rest in Peace
