I'm sure I'm not the only one with this gripe about the Carlton Cheersquad, but since I've been following football (late 70's), our banner representation, in terms of Font use, consistency and quality, at our games have been at best amateur, bordering crap in terms of quality.

Does anyone agree with this?

Let me say that I think their contributions to the cause are second to none in terms of where their hearts lie.

I look at other teams banners such as the filth and the Kangaroos, and the presentation of fonts are second to none. They're neat consistent, and very professional.

Given the Carlton Football Club is financially strickened at the moment, I see this as an opportunity for us to help our Cheersquad.

Here's my suggestion - that us TC'ers pledge a financial contribution for the Carlton Cheersquad so that we can purchase the same letter templates as used by say the filth or Roos Cheersquads? Does anyone know where they get them made, or where we can get them made?

What do you think? I'm happy to kick it off with $10 pledge.

Any surplus funds raised will be donated to the Cheersquad for materials.

I think "Kouta's Winter Ball" at the Sofitel makes it on the banner every week. But yeah I have noticed the decline in quality.

The quality is embarrassing.

Letters look like they have been cut out by 6 year olds.

Good suggestion Wangers, but do we know if it will actually be of use?

I have no idea how these banners get made, or what the process is to get from a whole bunch of crepe paper and sticky tape to something that Nick Stevens can run around.

I am actually surprised that in almost 4 years of being involved with Carlton forums that the Cheersquad element has not been more visible online. Maybe it is and people don't mention their involvement???

Would be a nice way to give the site a plug too. :P

I'm happy to follow up with the club or given Molsey has connections through his column, maybe he can follow up.

Either way, I think there's merit, and maybe it will give the site some good exposure on their banners (not that we need it, but hey, if we financially contribute to the cause - it would be a good way to say thanks), but also give the viewing crowd a new perception of the Carlton cheersquad.

I guess it would be good to get the Clubs' buy in in terms of the suggestion.

Good point, Camel. Are there any cheersquad members on TC?

Maybe we can suggest lines for the banner.

This week's could be...

When Carlton beats the Bummers,
We'll all be over the moon.
Coz we'll see our old mate Campo,
Win one more wooden spoon.

Think there is 1 on TC. I think his username is Pickle/s. We have a few on our site that we can point in this direction or tell them about. Or when I go to the game on the weekend, if we are close to them I can go have a chat to whom ever is in charge.

I think a bit more research is in order first. Find out what materials are used, find out why our letters look inferior, work out how much it will cost to make them look superior, and then we can determine what sort of financial contribution would be needed.

I have a few queries and issues that I'm pushing with the Club myself:

* linking the Blueseum
* Contributor roles and requirements
* Camel's 2006 100 year anniversary idea

and don't want to take another on. It's hard you know...

To me, this is a low priority item, but happy to support anyone else if they wish to push it.

M

I suspect i am the oldest circa the 1960,s...

They were the days when they were made up of Teenagers..

Have to say i find it a little concerning when i see the shots these days of Cheers Squads.Something not quite right about all those old blokes hanging around the kids!

If anyone wants to help out the cheersquad directly please go to the following page on the official site and use the contact details supplied there.

http://carltonfc.com.au/default.asp?pg=cheersquad

Would be nice if there were some crepe paper moguls on TC that could help out or someone in the printing/signage business.

I was a member in the late eighties/early nineties.

Was a lot of fun back then - I'd recommend it to teenage supporters...

So, does that mean you're not really 7 years old?! :shock:
