It was a number of reasons, mainly he was too young, just turning 16, wanted to finish school exams and go to uni to get his degree. The family are VERY close, too far to go around the world on his own at such a young age. I dont know how they wanted him, I just know that it was something run by a few clubs to get a look at Irish youngsters.

Trust me on this one.

A further point to critics to septics,

(I know what I said)

I have just watched the first 1/4, he doesnt look out of place at all, from when I last saw him play, his pace has increased to a phenominal rate. Some great touches to break up play, 2 good smothers and a great break from defence.

More to follow..............

I notice both of Setanta's major opponents from the wekend, Lee and Reynolds, got dropped. So the Bombers match committee obviously thought they got comprehensively beaten, even if a few Carlton supporters can't see it.

198cm superb athlete who ran around with a stick and catching a cricket sized ball at full speed turning on a sixpence and slamming through a goal all on the run.

Me thinks Setanta has a little bit of ball sense and that a ball the size of a water melon will pose no problems to him in future.

Cant see any problem investing another year or two in a bloke like this (or his YOUNGER brother 8) ) the upsides are enourmous and the downside is well negligible given that we cant get any lower at the moment.

Beano..............

I'm sure (but not totally positive) that Eddie was going after Aisakie aswell! Really wanted him to be a rookie with the PIES. Did you hear anything about that? I could be wrong and i can't remember where i read / heard that.

(P.S. Aiskie is coming along beautifully by the way! )

GWS I know everything I post on here is not as good as yours . I dont belong to the High Society posting group that you do .

Call me the Pauline Hanson of Talking Carlton if you wish . You know the person that says what everyone is thinking but to scared to say.

this is what I posted

We are discussing football GWS - why do we have to bring facts into it.

Everything is speculative so why not bend and twist what you are saying to suit your point of veiw . We are not dicussing the pro and cons on how to solve the middle east crisis . We are talking bullshit about a group of blokes running around an oversized field kicking a ball .

We can do this because of the place we live in and the troubles of a surburban football team far out way any problems we have in our society at the moment

So forget all about Facts this is all about opinion and if you want to use facts make them suit your arguement

But blow me down with a feather but isn't that just a different way of saying what you and Danny said earlier . All I am saying is seeing this is just a football discussion board why not state your opinion as fact to try and better your arguement . You do it all the time by stating the draft penalties hurt the club . Otherwise why not create different boards Such as Talking Carlton - Opinion and Talking Carlton - Facts

Have you ever considered the possibility that rather than agree with you many of us fail to take you even remotely seriously because everything you say is tainted by your blind obsession with Denis Pagan?

So let me get this straight so I fully understand what your are trying to say.

It is Ok to bag the hell out Campo- Whitnal- Kouta- Beaumont Parkin- Brittain - Ratten- Allen and whoever else you see fit to criticise

You can do this a length to the point where it becomes so tedious that you dont even feel like logging in and joining the discussions .
Do this and you are considered a serious poster

But bag Pagan like I constantly do

And you cant be taken seriuosly

Is that what you are trying to say TBB - Please clarify it with me because I really do want people to treat what I say as serious

No its not OK to (constantly) bag the hell out of Campo, Whitnall, Kouta, Beaumont, Parkin, Brittain, Ratten or Allan IMO...I never said it was and I rarely criticise players myself.

I haven't seen anyone turn almost every post into criticism of these players like you do with Pagan. I look at every single one of your posts now and look for the Pagan angle.

Ryan, to be honest I am not sure about AIsake at all, the pies link came from the camp tehy had here about 6 years ago, Aisake would have been too young, but I also think the pies came in late for Setanta when he first went out there so you might have got it from that, they may then have made a move for Aisake also.

You seem very honest Beano.

C'mon Sydney and Surrey, sometimes it seems like theres a horde mentality but you know what it's like - some more outspoken posters will join in on a view and the opposing views just go quiet because it's a) not worth arguing b) not enough time or c) clear that its just a differing opinion. I just gave up defending Beaumont as a player.

What irks some posters as simplistic answers to the big ones of 'Why are we still down the bottom?' - pagan is sh!t is not on its own an answer.

I think there are alot of people who question pagan's worth and we should all do it every day, against what we may need now, what he's doing, who he's developing, if they're developing etc.

But back onto Setanta, its clear that someone who makes obvious mistakes but does some very very good things that are a little less showy created divergent opinion. I look past the mistakes because he will learn, eventually. His very very good things and his athletic ability make him worth persevering for for years IMHO, even if he mucks up a hell of a lot.
