Hmmm ... well it's not over yet and I have hopes that one or both of Carlton and Essendon* will defeat Collingwood before the year is out - let's hope it's you guys. FWIW your tall recruiting looks good which is the hard part, I believe we rated Edwards highly, and this years draft is said to be high quality deep into the second round so picks 1, 17 and 18 could be very valuable.

I think you're confusing Russell with Jones and Bate with Murphy.

I predict in 5 years time Murphy will be streets ahead of all those players.
No confusion

Fair enough, no doubt Murphy will be a top player. Have a look at Bate and Jones this week and see what you think of them. I think they will be very good players too. McLean is the one who is achieving ahead of expectations for us and will be a star, while Sylvia has been disappointing and has not been able to translate his U18 dominance to the AFL stage.

I will go because I'm hoping to see further improvement from our youngsters and just possibly the debut of another rookie.

I will go, because I go everyweek and lose or win, it's still a good day out.

We should lose this week, most of us will tip Melbourne. But with our current side, you can't be to sure and I am sure Daniher will be telling his troops to go in hard and all the rest.

If Fev can get his tail up, and Lance to get into it early, it could be game on for a while. Whenever we are close on the scoreboard, we are a chance.

Welcome back Old 55..........Guess i gave you too much credit last time when i said you were a civil sorta guy.Still,i like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but in this case i got you wrong. In answer to your question......i was wrong about the Dees. They have stood up.The Byron Picket inclusion has been massive for your team.He has made all those old school tie types around him grow ten foot tall. And if you were honest Old 55 you would have to agree.Your improvent is also due to the inclusion of some very fine young players which supports my theory that Craig Cameron, along with James Fantasia are the two best recruiters going around. As you are so keen on throwing mud in peoples faces Old 55,you check my posts and i have stated this on a number of occasions previously.Unlike yourself Old 55,i dont pick out the bits that suit me.That sorta stuff is for nasty mean small minded types like yourself.

And Daniher ! you are more niave than i thought Old 55.Nothing has changed .The fact is he has not delivered anything yet.Travelling nicely.....Yes
Silverware in the cupboard.....No.
If you go out meakly as you did last year Old 55,then he is in deeper shit than last year.Nothing has changed Old 55.The board like and respect Daniher and they think he can coach. But they are getting impatient and want a return. They are not prepared to just go through the motions year i n and year out.

Hey Mick that was OUR last conversation, if its "mud" then it's your mud, if you've retracted since then I'm sorry I missed it.

I'm pleased to see you getting out there with a definite opinion ... I said there was no way Sydney could win the 2005 flag - I was wrong.

If you'd said that first time around:

The board like and respect Daniher and they think he can coach. But they are getting impatient and want a return. They are not prepared to just go through the motions year in and year out.

Instead of:

The upper echelons have lost faith in him. ... Hes gone full stop

I wouldn't be calling you on it.

So old55 how are the Dees travelling, can they beat WCE or Crows interstate as they'll have to to win a flag. And what have you done to turn nathan carooll into a player, and what has happened to nathan brown?

Did i overeact Old55...........? just a tad.Gotta get that aggression under control. But not too much.

Mate, check my past posts and you will find that i did say that. Bottom line,Gutnik put Daniher on the payroll, not Gardner. And every President likes to leave his own imprint.

Oh,by the way.Whilst your checking my past posts you will notice i alerted Tcers about Nathan Jones.Earl last year some time actually.I would have loved to have Nathan Jones at the Blues, but not at the expence of Marc Murphy. As good as Jones is,i reckon Murphy has a smidgin more class.Reckon Jones is more the bulldozer type.

Agreed!

Daniher started trying to recruit harder stock after the 2000GF debacle. I know CAC has made the picks but the strategy has been Daniher's:
first picks: Scott Thompson, Molan, Bell, Sylvia and McLean, Bate, Jones. There's a pattern there even down to Molan who was a dud in a great draft , Thompson who left (replaced by Moloney) and Bell who has not come on as hoped. It's taken longer to bite but it's starting.

No, I don't think we can win finals at Subi (lost twice there this year) or AAMI even with opportunities in W1 and W3. We need to finish 2nd to win the flag and if we do I think we will win it given a decent injury free run. We can definitely beat Adelaide or WC at the MCG on GF day. But unfortunately it's going to be tough to do from here.

FWIW I'm an old fashioned "spine first" kind of guy and I think the Blues are making the right steps in getting some talent in there, compared with say Richmond. Our succession plan there is a bit shaky and I hope we pick up a KPP in the 2006 first round.

Agree Murphy has class, it will be interesting to see ho much Jones has. I am a huge wrap for Matthew Bate he has Kouta-like potential.

Carroll's improvement has been meteoric, he's always had a bit of pace which is a great asset for FB. He's injury free and it's amazing what a bit of confidence can do. He has two big tests coming up with Fev and Nathan Thompson. There's a debate on Demons sites about how much Rivers makes the other KPBs look good.

Nathan Brown has been injured and was first week back last week. He might have lost a yard and has always been prone to turnover. But he gives 100%. I prefer him to Ward. He's a pretty handy 22nd player. We lack stars but we've got a lot of "decent" players in the 18th-28th player range.

I predicted a Carlton win R1 - we were top heavy - FFS White, Jamar, and Paul Johnson at the Dome. No McLean, no Rivers. Not so this time.

I guess it is undeniable that we are a better side than Melbourne!

And No Murphy=No Johnstone.

Big statement from Fevola at the half time siren ... loved it. :-D Let everyone know there was one leader who was not going to take any crap.

For most of the Carlton team, yesterday was about remembering how to win. It's something the Blues had not done since they toppled Essendon* in May.

But for Blackwell, Russell and O'hAilpin, it was about finding out what it felt like to win. Blackwell had played eight senior games before yesterday, and got his winning fix only with the Northern Bullants.
Russell played one game last season, had earned another eight this year, and still not won one. O'hAilpin, who arrived at Carlton in 2004, also notched game No. 8 yesterday.

And so, holding on to beat Melbourne meant all three got to stand together in the middle of the circle, have things thrown at them and sing their team's theme song for the first meaningful time in their lives.
