I wouldn't let that phase you from putting down your thoughts in an email.

Put the ball back in their court. That's what I did.

Just got a call from the Club, they had such a huge response that they are now ringing people not to attend as to limited numbers - so I missed out on the meeting. Just shows that a lot of people are very keen to tell the club what they think about the lousy way the Club trats its premium members....

So the club asks members to come to a forum, the members say yes I will come and then the club rings back as says you can't come because we have asked to many people to come.

That's interesting.

I've only been a member for 6 months so i'm not that upset about it, plenty more SC members out there who's say means more than mine.

But perhaps your right, perhaps they should have planned it a bit better if that is the case (them ringing to now say 'don't come')

same thing happened to me mikkey & I'm not too pleased about it. I use the sticks room every home game, before, during & after the game so I'm bitterly disappointed that I'm not allowed to go and voice my opinion.

Can I ask that everyone who has said they are going to go make sure you go - I would hate to find out that people like myself & mikkey (who I know also uses the social club room) had to miss out for people who might not use the facilities as much so decide at the last minute not to go.

That is not a stab at anyone by the way but this is a big opportunity to voice our opinion for the club to get it right.

IMO, Ryan, that's where you're wrong. Your opinion is just as valid as other SC members, given that you've paid your dosh. Also, it's important that the Club finds out from new SC members what prompted them to upgrade from one level of membership (if they were previously members) to SC membership.

My advice to those who have been called to tell you don't bother...turn up anyway. Insist that you have your say, and that you don't care about the fingerfood and snacks, you just want to give half an hour or an hour of your time to help YOUR CLUB.

If they get enough people rocking up to the door for that, I think they'd have rocks in their head to piss off too many SC members by denying them their say.

The club could easily set up a temporary private internet forum only open to social club members in order to get feedback.

Unfortunately, if you have too many people in a focus group, you actually lose focus.

So they split it up into several smaller groups....

I don't think that there's a valid reason to knock back people who are obviously keen. Paid focus groups are one thing, but ones being done for the good of the club are well and truly different.

the game, im curious that u would buy an AFL membership rather than directly support carlton. how does the payment work? does it go to the AFL or some part to us if u buy a AFL membership? as we are in our current financial situation...wouldnt it be best to give us the money?

edit: and before u mention substandard services etc...we dont play at OO anymore, we couldnt afford to, so there is no use crapping on about services offered as part of the membership from our time at OO. the transition from OO to TD is only in its infantile stages, this workshop will be a positive step towards implementing new services, equivelant services. where i work we have VIP nights, they are sent to more ppl than we need and then u must RSVP to attend, why are a few ppl being cynical about the club saying ppl cant come? they probably didnt expect as many ppl to respond, its only natural. give the club a break.

To me the clubs actions over the last couple of years show they would be happy to just do away with the Social Club. If that's what they want to do then fine but just kill it now rather than ripping members off.

For each AFL CLub support member, the nominated CLub receives an equivalent membershp payment from the AFL.

thats alright then. but why would u ever want to go to a game carlton wasnt participating in? i hate ppl who go to neutral games, wearing their team gear....infuriating.

I've always found people who wear their own colours to neutral games annoying too sean

But going to neutral games itself - very enjoyable. Stress free viewing.

Well I was certainly impressed by the responsiveness on the club this time. I sent a very detailed email about the social club offering (as I can't make the focus group) and I got a reply 6 hours later.

It was a personal reply, not a form letter as it addressed my specific points. I was impressed with that. Definitely seems like the club are very keen to do a lot better with this package in 2007.

Dear Mr Hammer,

Your response to our social club issue was appreciated. However, your impassioned plea to trade Nick Stevens has little relevance to the point at hand.
But thanks for taking the time to contribute.

Arthur Fatt
Social club committee chairman.
