Whoever recieves the honour will recieve it by default.
Fev is improving fantastically but as recently as 12 months ago, he was leaning against the fence and the club had lost patience with him.

Less than 12 months ago, Whitnalls manager was on the radio saying Lance wasnt happy that Fevola was on more money.
When did you last hear Buckleys manager dragging this stuff through the media or Hird or Voss?
We are scraping the barrel and whoever recieves it will not be worthy.

Perhaps it's time to take a risk and name a leadership group instead of a captain. Place Simpson, Murphy, Thornton, Walker etc in the group and give Whitnall, Stevens, French and co. the responsibility of developing these guys as leaders.
The faster the younger players step up, the quicker the older players will have success.

I'm up for a leadership rotation every week with 3-5 key leaders.

Its not like we have to decide who will be captain for a Grand Final visit now do we.

It will help fast track the leadership qualities of Walker and Murphy, while recognising Whitnall and Fev's contribution.

I don't mind the idea of rotating some leadership and giving many of our players the opportunity to face the media etc.

This gives everyone the opportunity to show their capabilities and then in 3-4 years when we're ready to win we'll hopefully have a standout captain.

For the sake of official records, having one photo in the footy record and not appearing to copy St Kilda and Grant Thomas could we just appoint a captain?

Assuming we don't trade him lets appoint Whitnall as Captain on a 2 year term and then Stevens, Fevola and Simpson as the vice captains. Each vice captain can then have 3-4 players in their leadership group and rotate responsibility each week.

Fevola - Waite, Carazzo, Lappin
Stevens - Murphy, Bentick, Fisher
Simpson - Scotland, Walker, Thornton

Captain...I'll go with Fev as he can be insperational which the other candidates lack...

VC..Simpson......matured so much and is a onfield leader now .
If you wanted another VC I would nominate Bret Thornton and down the track I think Marc Murphy can look forward to be captain...

Stevens and Lance dont inspire me.....Andrew Walker is better free and just running around doing his thing without the burden of being a captain...

How about three captains on a weekly rotational basis for the coin toss.

Fev - Forward Captain - Jared Vice
Stevens - Midfield Captain - Simmo Vice
Lance - Defensive Captain - Tbird Vice

Do this for a year or two and then hand the reins to Murphy or someone in that age group with the ability to do the job.

After watching the first hour of Fev on the TFS last night, i'm convinced he should not be our captain. Still too loose with what he says.

Co-Captains?

Lance and Fev.

Just as long as they rotate their 'stuff ups" (if applicable).

For example, If whitnall shows up 'fat' to pre-season training then Fev is Captain for that day............and if Fev rolls up pissed to training then Lance is captain........ :-D

If they both rock up fat and pissed then give it to Stevens (but he could be fat), so try Simmo (but his hair might not be brushed), so try Scotland (but he might have been in a fight at a nightclub)..... help!

I think the footy show want Fev to be entertaining and play the fool..I'm not a fan of it...Nathan Buckley wont play the idiot and Eddie wouldnt let him but for some reason they pair up Fev and Crawford.
I wouldnt judge Fev just on the footy show...he did say the young players respect him and I think thats half the battle....
Probably Lance will get the captains job but I think Fev will be the spiritual leader on the field...

Fev's already our team's leader.

The rest is just titles.

True. However, making him Captain just feels right to me. No disrespect to Lance, but having a big personality like Fev for Captain appeals to me.

Captain: Lance Whitnall

Vice Captains: Brendan Fevola and Nick Stevens

Leadership group (assuming total of 7): Lance, Fev, Stevo, Scotland, Simmo, Walker and T-Bird.

i like that idea too it worked for sydeny with hall, kirk and barry but i cant see carlton doing it, cant wait till murphy is 2 or 3 years older we have to give it to him straight away then there'll be no debate over our next captain and we'll have the best captain in the league running around.
