Guess you want a new board then? Sticks is the only one capable of fitting that criteria out of what we have.

Eventually yes. When there's a suitable option who aren't running around whispering about doing something but are actually willing to put up I'll assess them and vote accordingly. That doesn't mean Kernahan's appropriate as a board member. What have you seen that I haven't that makes you think he's in any way visionary or competent? If it was up to Kernahan we'd still have Camporeale running around half-back.

Yep, Collo took a real stand, years and years after the fact and after he caused his own share of damage during Jacks presidency. Took Hunter about 8 years also.

So Collo and Hunter are bad because they tried to redress the past by ousting Elliott and Sticks is good because he's never done so? I think your username might be interfering with your brain on this one.

Every person on the board plays a different role, & sticks fits the role of liasing between the playing side and admin side perfectly.

Yep he can but he doesn't need to be on the board to do so.

kingkerna wrote:
Who do you think a player could turn to if they had any difficult questions to ask of the club?

There are a large number of people around the club. Sticks is just one of many people a player could approach if he had a problem. He's an ex-captain not an agony aunt.

Didn't know that as director of football he tried to keep Campo, enlighten us more GWS or are you just hypothesising? You would think that the director of football would have had a say in letting Campo go. You would also think that the director of football would have to be on the board, you know, as a director?

But I guess we could just get a businessman with no footy experience to fulfill that role, it can't be that important, can it?

Re names - I think you are just upset that we didn't get wells, or is that he has shown to be a little on the overrated side?

The board want Sticks on side, Pagan wants Sticks on side......

These people are well aware of the benefits of having an alliance with Kernahan. Sticks is loved by Carlton people and the powerbrokers are well aware of the "insulation" Sticks affords them.

As for smorgon, good on him. On one hand we've got a President who puts in big hours at the club and tips in his own cash to assist us. Remember, everything he does for the club and every hour he spends there is voluntary and time he could be spending with his family.

When Pagan gives up his 700 grand a year and tips in his own money, make Smorgon your target. Until then, value every cent his offers.

Nice post BV-
Agree completely
Good to know people are at least giving Graham more of a chance now- considering how he was virtually hung by some on here on his first day as President.

I am happy for Smorgan to stay on at the moment, I'm not happy with some of the things he's done but there are no other alternatives. You can't force someone into the role if they don't want it, it's an unpaid position, and I dont' see anyone of note putting their hand up.

If we win another game and we miss out on a vital draft pick he has failed his first big test miserably.

So he'll only put money in if he gets a tax deduction? I guess that's how he got rich in the first place?

Just taking advantage of rules which have been in place for some time.

Good on him.

Thank you, Smorgon.

Yeah, fair enough and well put.

Guess I'll cancel the membership next year and just contribute through the tax deductible Foundation Fund; after all, it's better for me and the Club still gets they money. Or is there a minimum contribution?

Kernahan wanted Campo to stay. Campo walked. No hypothesis.

Wells is overrated? By whom? You? Daniel Wells is a young kid who's shown that he's going to be a star. Is he inconsistent? Yes - he's a kid. Is he a super talent. Yes.

You still haven't answered what it is that you think makes Kernahan a visionary, innovative and highly competent board member.

When someone can show me how he fulfills that criteria I'll vote for him.

No he doesnt.
but he does have an obligation to steer the ship away from being a basketcase...

There are no initiatives under his leadership.

He will say AFL... Collo wasnt a fan of going to the AFL until all other avenues were exhausted...but it was his contacts with the AFL that made it happen..
The redevelopment??? Collo.

Just waiting on a single major Smorgon initiative.

and yes youre right Heady.. he is under no obligation...

But then youre average rank and file members isnt either.. but we all do...

How does anyone know it was done begrudgingly? I take offence at the new title of the thread - it has a political slant to it that may or may not be true.

As Headplant has said, he didnt have to do anything but has, so who is to say what actually made him contribute?

If it was to head-off a move on his position or quell unrest at the Board, or for the peasants like us, then that doesn't make it begrudging. That makes it well-timed, or political, or macchiavellian, or just one thing a sitting Leader can do (similar to a political ploy when in Government... the power of incumbency) to maintain power.

i reckon its important for members to begin voting and stop allowing the club to just roll along aimlessly.. you dont have to vote for change... but you should care enough to vote

i think he went down to the vice president valmorbida on single digits..

then they brought in people from outside of the elections as invitees onto the board... people who wont rock the boat.

Clark should have been invited on first.. seeing he threw his hat into the ring in an election and went down to the VP by nine votes...
