I suspect the 200K offer by the club is an ambit claim - I'm sure we may be willing to pay around 300K, therefore 200K would be the starting point from the clubs' perspective, then 250K as a counter offer, then 275K, finally 300K - especially given only half will be counted in the salary cap.

The negative of Kouta playing on is a player loses a year of development in the seniors.

Someone should tell Kouta 200k is what the average person gets paid over 4 years.....

All he has to do is shuffle around the middle not chasing and expecting others to do it...

amazing how they can lose all sense of reality like that.

Kouta is lucky anything was tabled..

And see ya later!!!

You know what, I reckon if there were only 15 other employment opportunities and half of them didn't want you anyway, you just might think about taking a cut. Especially when the wage you are going to be on after taking a pay cut is still going to be more than elsewhere would pay you.

I hope the club doesn't fold. They should just stick to the offer and if he eventually agrees then fine. If Kouta pulls the plug as a result then its all very sad and we move on. It'd be a good thing for the club either way, if he's that hung up on money at this point of his career then he's not a good role model for the kids and he's not the kind of person we want at the club. As Deano often says, NO flower! :-D

You wouldn't have invested the millions you've earned so you don't have to worry about employment?

He's a millionaire, right?

Sorry but i'm no millionaire and I'll have a plastic knee in ten years also. Do you think the teams i played for care about that? Any PA in place to look after me? I'll leave this discussion for another thread cause it pisses me off all the media discussion on long term player welfare.

Kouta should be $100k, take it or leave it. I want him to retire this year, the way he is playing at the moment will leave a good feeling for most supporters IMO.

I can't help but note your post is all "ME ME ME", and as a result I think you're a tool, yet I know nothing about you (aside from your post).

Sucks, eh?

Bye Kouta.

But more importantly - @#$%&! of DAVID ALLISON go and ply your parasitic low life stench down at Moorabbin.

Once the other piece of shit you managed hobbles off over the horizon that revenue stream will be closed off to you.

See you on some street corner - some people wouldn't piss on you but I would be happy to.

"Athorn the Wonderkid" shattered by contract offer to Kouta...

A. What is the point for the team for him playing next year?
B. What does he have to prove in playing next year?

We're a bottom team and need to develop the kids. There's no point in him staying on or us keeping him on, irrespective of the contracted amount IMHO.

Sometimes fans need a fresh start too and I look forward to the day where all this mess is behind us.

You called "ME" a tool  :-D

As for the "ME" component of the post, read the post I was responding to, someone who IMO is implying Kouta should be looked after due to the possibility of having a plastic knee in ten years.

I'd be happy to go to $275,000 (maybe 300 if you really twisted my arm, but unlikely), but that's it. Kouta's now in no real negotiating position as we'll be just as happy to let him retire if he doesn't accept it.

Negotiate in the media all you like Allison - you've got about as much leverage as a piece of wet straw moving a block of concrete.

Kouta has been my favourite Carlton player to watch over the past 35 years. However, the club is always bigger than the individual.

I want 8 new places on our list at the end of the year. Some of the delistings will be obvious, but other ones that I want will be saved by an existing contract.

Kouta is not in the 8 worse players at our club, but he has shown all the signs that he will not be our future.
