What a great idea. Let's vote for a new Board. But first, we'll make sure they know that if they aren't successful within 4 months, then they'll personally have to put cash into the club. Actually, didn't you say that Smorgon should have put the money in earlier? Let's give them 2 months.

FFS!

Now you're just ranting. You're foundering and you know it.

You were wrong to denegrate the donation. If you can't see that, well...

Its like buying your son a job.... its been done before.

If im floundering.. you answer me this...

what have been the Smorgon initiatives since he has taken over???

When you can answer me that you win!!!...

and for whoever said we have no money... thats why we cant make money consider this.

Its only a 19 million dollar business... nothing huge....!!!

But what it has at its disposal are 28,500 members that pay up before the season starts.. and potentially much more...

Its has huge media cover.(cant pay for that kind of exposure if youre a business.. even BHP dont get the exposure AFL does ...(cant find sponsors)

It has monies coming from the largest TV deal ever...

and all you have to do is not lose 1.5 mill a year...

Oh i forgot we also have one of the ten richest Australians as president..

nineteen million turnover.... must be extremely difficult to run eh???

Vote for who Synbad? The last time there was a significant alternative to vote for was Collo ousting Elliot.
Morgan the problem with politicians.. is they shore their own positions up.
Succesful people rarely want a shit fight.. so succesful people dont usually want to run againt people determined to hold on...(thats why it was so hard to get rid of Elliot.)

What the club really needs is to be opened right upSo people will feel they can put their hand up without getting a black eye.
Youll find there will be a few people wanting in now... lets hope theyre the kind of people that can take us forward.

Just vote as they come up.

It doesnt have to be to change.. but we must not allow things to remain just because we cant be bothered!!!

Syngbad, it doesn't have to change, but we can't allow things to remain the same? I don't understand, do you want me to vote for the current group, in lieu of alternatives? I'd love to have a genuine choice, but there isn't one at the moment. Competition is always good, but if no one is willing to put their hand up (maybe they don't think they can do any
better?) then voting or not voting isn't going to change anything.

Mordon my point is we have to care aNd not just leave things rilling along waiting for other to fix them...

If you want to vote for the current board thats ok.. or anyone else.

Noone should make you vote for anyone under duress.

But i want people to think about the issues.. and then vote accordingly.

Five will come up for re election this year.. 2 of those have never been elected.Plus three of the pre existing.

If you think theyre what we need.. you vote for them.. if you think theyre impotent.. you vote for someone else.

Synbad you paint a good picture until you realise that we have 15 other competitors who in recent times have ALL performed better then us where it counts (on the field).

Yes it has huge media cover - if you play on Friday nights or actually get on free to air - again peformance related.

GS is top 10 is he? You sure about that?

No argument there. Assess whoever puts their hand up, vote for the best.

Still requires someone else to put their hand up.

Mr Smorgan,

The money you have donated is appreciated but in the end you will be judged by what you can do for this club and not by how much money you put in. You need to show leadership, initiative and inspire us all to want to become involved and be proud of our club. Money won't buy this.
Early days yet but I am not inspired.

I am bewildered at the ungratefulness on this website...
I feel ashamed to support the Blues-
How much have you given to the club Synbad? Considering you run a business that touches "50% of the population?"

Does it get anywhere close to what Graham and Sam have given this football club? But does it even matter?

Cant this thread be dedicated to thanking the Smorgons for their decades of committment and support to this footy club, instead of finding pitiful reasons to simply bag them ?
Some of your suggestions are very insightful, its such a shame it is clouded in a sea of vindictiveness... And to think people on here hang on to your every last word...

Why does he need a thank you? Did some one put a gun to his head and say give us the money?
What about all the benefactors that put money in that we don't know about? What thank you do they get?
He is the president of the club an my expectations are a lot higher than just putting money in. At this stage I have seen nothing that inspires me. Does he inspire you?

Synbad

I am not defending Smorgon's achievements as Chairman. I do not need to tell you his iniatives because I am not claiming that he has (or hasn't) come up with any.

What I am saying is that I appreciate his (and everyone else's) donations - regardless of their station in life, their involvement with the club, their health, their wealth or whatever. You are blatantly ungracious and rude to suggest that anyone's donations are reluctant or begrudging or overdue or expected.

That was my only issue. Do you get it?

Oh...and now we can add to that your foolish thought that we can find Board members willing to personally and immediately guarantee the club's financial performance. I actually hesitated to bring this part up as I am certain that you recognise, in hindsight, what an absurd idea it is. Do you?

So please, don't ask me to justify Smorgon's capabilities as Chairman. I am not commenting on that. And please, cut out the ranting and address the post.

woof I didn't say he needed thanks, you were thanking him and I was commenting that he would be better off without your sort of 'thanks'

Ok so he has had no initiatives as president..... he has been present on overseeing some incompetent decisions.. and he has donated 300k. Thats excellent!!!

There!!!.. i said it!!!

Yep. You said it. You've said plenty in this thread for me to form a pretty solid opinion of you (and just quietly, I think a few others may have done the same).

This has NOTHING to do with the Carlton Football Club or its competence on and off the field, so justifying your comments because of it won't wash. So, please leave out your normal rant about how you're looking for solutions...blah blah blah.

And I also suspect that you'll say that my opinion doesn't matter 'cause I don't know you. Fine. My opinion, and those of several others who read and/or participate in this forum, don't matter. But we still have them.

Now on a lighter note....how are you going with finding those Board members that are going to guarantee our financial future....hilarious!

Still doesnt address why a guy who costs us money by not implementing any ideas to make money shouldnt have to donate ....

Are you also saying that nobody will ever implement ideas to guarantee our future???

Youre a very pessimistic fellow ... i bet one day we do find people who can turn the club around and they will do that because they were voted in....

Even if you think noone ever will and were stuck with the current board...
as you do cartwheels because they dinated...

And thanks for your opinion... it tells me alot about who you are too... ;)

Synbad, your stupidity astounds me. He DOESN'T have to donate anything, period. Like it or not, he actually has a position on our board, and all you have is this forum. He is in a position to make a sizeable donation, and has, so be thankful, idiot.

If I remember the story correctly, you start off disliking green eggs and ham, but by the end, discover that you're actually quite partial to them.

In this instance, however, I'm going to want to see more than four posts, with every single one nothing more than a direct attack on a single poster.

How about Thornton's form lately, green eggs? And what do you think about Russell - reckon he'll develop into a quality running half-back for us?

John do you have to have a certain number of posts for your opinion to count?
