No they'll get 1/3 of a game each instead of 1/2.

If you had 5 Greg Williams in your team would your team be crap?

I don't think so. And geez the umpires would cop an earfull... :-D

The opposition would be running around in circles trying to work out who had the ball.

I'm not suggesting any of these guys are Williams quality but I think there's still room for a less othodox set up if the talent's there.

Plus as mentioned if we're to be any good we need multiples of all types of player. If Bentick, Blackwell, Smith etc all end up playing for Carlton long term they might not all play every game together but they'll all make a valuable contribution.

We need to start compiling a list that has 30 plus very good players not 22. There's plenty of room there for 3 or even 4 nuggety little guys on that list.

We used to have a couple of "speedsters" in Fraser Brown and Brett Ratten who used to run around the mid-field with Greg Williams - and I recall us going alright, and when Mad Dog and Diesel were on song the umpires were getting it in stereo.

Bingo! You can be sure that his 'opportunity' will come at the expense of those who need game time (Blackwell, Russell etc.), rather than those that could use a rest (Stevens, Kouta, Houlihan etc.).

Congrats to the boy. Fingers crossed he gets his shot and makes the most of it. My tip (should he play) - 34 minutes.

Pity it wasn't Jacko, but we wanted one of them promoted and we got that so we can't exactly complain.

I think we probably went with promoting Smith because we have to decide on him at the end of the season as this is his second year on the Rookie List. Ryan Jackson still has another year to go on the Rookie List so there is no real hurry in terms of seeing what he can do. So a pretty logical decision really.

Agreed.

I have no doubt if Jacko does all the right things over the summer, he will be promoted as soon as possible in the main season.

Our last great team had 3 traditional centreman types in Brown, Ratten and Williams. Yeah yeah I hear you say these kids arent that good and yea yeah the game has changed for pace and tactics but maybe over time one of these guys can play forward a bit (eg Williams or Brown) or back a bit (eg Ratten) to help a bit with balance and stuff.

I reckon Bentick's ahead of Ratten at the same age. When Ratten was about 20 he was crawling around on the deck looking for his contact lenses.

I don't think I met one Carlton supporter back then who thought he'd be a 200 game player.

You're kidding me?!?!

Man, this reminds of the beginning of Get Smart.

Jesse opens one door, to find another door he has to "bang" down again.

Really, what's the point of elevating him if you're not gonna play him... Bloody hell.

I was surprised people were thinking he was playing. There was no indication the match committee thought he'd done enough to make the seniors. The deadline was Wednesday. I reckon they are hoping he will step up to the plate and demand a senior spot now.

Time will tell.

If he hadn't been elevated then he wouldn't be able to play for the rest of the year. Denis also said this week (again) that none of the rookies have banged hard enough. If/when he does he can still play.

It may just be that smiths form demanded elevation. To expect to go into a winning side, was just hoping really. I have no doubt that jesse will debut next week. As far as rookies cut of date this only means any player injured now can not be termed as an l.t.i. meaning that we can still elevate another rookie up untill round 22. And as far as reasons for jesses elevation stop assuming he had to be elevated to show whether we keep him or not, pleming becker and so on never got any chance at senior level, my point being that they do not give just anybody the opportunity if they do not think you can play. Jesses form has been outstanding for the bullies and he thoroully deserves his chance. Plenty of rookies finish their careers without ever troubling the scoreboard, my bet is that smith has done enough to secure his spot for next season. WELL DONE SMITHY .

I doubt Jesse would see it that way, given a choice.

Hopefully his elevation to the senior list just gives him extra incentive to put in a blinder for the Ants on the weekend.

It's a win for Jesse and a win for the Bullants.

Yeah fair enough. Hope he gets a game before the season ends then.

Jesse had about 30 possessions up until 3/4 time today for the Bullants - will definitely play next week.
