Presidents inspirational???? When was the last time we had one? Collo hardly inspirational, Elliott?, Rice? Harris - I'd say was inspirational and was the architect of our magnificent glory days.

Which other AFL club has inspirational presidents? Perhaps the Pies with Eddie. The rest?

Who sells the club to corporates? Whose job is it to get the coin? Smorgan and co. have to get the discretional spending from corporates. Am I going to put a million into the CFC or am I going to put that million somewhere else? It is Smorgon's job to inspire people to invest in the club. Our competition for $$$ goes way beyond the AFL and it is not good enough to say what other clubs have inspirational Presidents?

What don't we have a corporate/sponsorship department? I agree that presidents need to pull $$$ in and "sell" the brand………but inspire? Beyond the AFL absolutely. All clubs are fighting for the ever diminishing dollar.

Regaredless of whether its diminishing... you have to have a gameplan.. to run a business.. a business plan..
We have the core of the same board for 4 years...

Is this 2 years into a three year business plan???

Is anything looking obvious???

What are we attempting to do????

Whats our business model???

I dont think anyone can answer any of those questions... if anyone can .. please let me in on them.

Thats what im saying.. all the rest is irrelevant.

Smorgon can tip in 300k and its appreciated.. but if they can sell the club to sponsors we can get them to tip in the 300k..or even more.. but we cant.

Remember the club did say they had a full compliment of sponsors...

and we also have nearly 30,000 members.. so why are we strugging???

Well that would be nice.. but there are more revenue streams out there that need to be tapped into.

Did we ever really have a plan? Or did we miss our targets by that much that it was better left alone?

Synbad you'd hope that with Fitzy coming on board that one will be developed.

Synbad, I'm sure you being an astute businessman would realise that you need to have a product that people want. The business plan the club put together (post moving to the Dome/G) was 35k+ members based on more success (remember the 2005 Wiard Cup?).

Do you know that he is not trying to sell the club at the moment? Let me give you the tip - if you're product is shit, you can be the best businessman in the world and not be able to sell it.

By the way, who is Adelaide's president? West Coast's?

actually (and I hate to agree with Synbad  ) but I'd suggest an astute buisnessman would make people want the product we have.

Famous club

huge membership

been down

full of young kids

murph

walker

Fev

etc

I mean really I could sell this club - its got 600 thou (a census done years ago so I'm betting even more) people out there begging for it to be sold to them!!!!!!!

But the Club don't want to sell those stories DB, Fev sells himself, as does Murphy, but

* the Club doesn't want to push the rookies out ostensibly for development purposes (ie develop in the 2's); or
* the Club doesn't want its players talking to the media (or they can't).

Now that's only part of the story - of course there's the history of this proud Club:

* the 100th anniversary celebrations of the 1906 premiership idea came from the fan base
* the idea to put together all of our history in one big historical website came from the fan base, with support internally

So we've been in a poor state for 5 years so our current story isn't that good, but our history is second to none and our future is as good as we make it. So couldn't we have some form of plan around that... some form of announced financial targets, refocus back on that HistoryFuture campaign, and sell the past and the future simultaneously.

Im not sure who stops us from doing that; a Communications team swamped and understaffed, the Directors deliberately not pushing it or not being aware of it, or someone in between as manager who doesn't want to push it up or down. But to me, and sure I'm a pathetic Carlton loser who loves the Club, we have heaps to sell and should be doing it more & more & more.

2002 - 16th
2003 - 15th
2004 - 10th (with 3 100+ pumpings)
2005 - 16th
2006 - 15th (currently)

Free to air don't want to know us - no broad exposure.

DB, business is business. Money talks. I'm not disagreeing with you but when making a business decision NOW companies would rather associate with Sydney (huge market), Collingwood (bigger supporter base) and WCE, Adelaide. Maybe historically a famous club but with recent brand damage (in fact, Fev was part of the brand damage pre '06).

Even taking into account your charming persona, it's a very tough gig at the moment for CFC board and we need to appreciate this.

I agree with you Barass.

Nobody cares who is the president of West Coast and Adelaide, they win football matches. The reason why Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon* have the largest supporter bases of the Victorian clubs is because of their success over a long period of time.

When we start winning again things will turn around. There are no quick fixes unfortunately.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't pull out all stops to try... we have 'elite young talent' :o on the list and that is the future.

I have no idea whether we are or aren't pulling out all stops at Board level, but at Communications level I think we could do a lot more. Walker's 50th deserved much much more. Simmo's rise to the leadership group deserved much much more. We have a much better list now than 3 years ago so we are closer to the incline (regardless of your views of the Coach) and I'll be damned if we should wait for it. We need a shake-up, a push-along, and we need to sell the future.

We actually have upside now! Spruik!

Its tough .. noone says its not.

Whats important is whats the b lueprint to go forward?
What are the initiatives that have been conceived???

Nothing...

Blaming the ladder is a weak excuse to why we have no blueprint.. and no plan.. and no initiatives .

Somewhere you need to be cutting edge about something...

Where is it???

Do we know how much the donation was? The Age article says "six figures" and then refers to the fund having $300k in the coffers, but I'm not sure if that is before or after the Smorgon donation?

Does anyone know?

of course its hard when we are losing but there is plenty to like about this young side but not if we bury our head in the turf and mumble something about waiting until we are winning again.

hey O.R. that's 1 vote - how many more do I need?
