What would you think about giving Carlos a go in the ruck. French has been shitting me and after watching good running smaller ruckman like White and Goodes Carlos might do alright with a big leap.

He has been good in the last few games but i still wonder about him in defence. He is gaining confidence and maybe a go in the middle of the ground will inspire him to improve even more.

Agree

his best chance in the short term (ie, next season) is to learn to support the main ruckman and pinch hit either end

Agree as well But I cant see our coach thinking so outside the norm. But he is 198cm athletic and could be good.Worth a try.

I have been thinking the same for a while.

Get him to spend a lot of time with Dempsey in the off season.

Thought the same thing at half time yesterday, I thought may be, a big may be, that Lance might have gone forward, Walker in the middle, Waite to CHB on Franklin and Irish on the ball.

Can't think of many changes after half time after we had probably played our worst half of football for the year.

Just wish we'd try something different.

I don't mind the idea but maybe not this week as Richmond have some absolute monsters in the ruck. He's a little small for them, strength wise that is.

Agree...would definitely be giving Carlos a go in the ruck. Let him run and jump, and have the freedom of not having a direct opponent.

Would also like to see Waite at CHB. Pagan said at the press conference two weeks ago that they want to try him there, and were waiting for Kennedy to be able to play CHF. Surely you'd want to get a look at Waite at CHB before the end of the season...if he happens to gun it there, then it's going to impact on who we draft, Gibbs or Hansen/Gumbleton. Why is Pagan not having a look now???

I would also get Simpson to spend the entire summer learning to kick on his right...it's the one clear deficiency in his game.

It is convenient that next year's season has 22 games. That means we can play him in a different position every game (with a different starting spot on the bench in 4 games).

Or we could try to allow him to gain experience and confidence in one role before we start changing things up?

Thats our problem, we keep waiting for things to happen instead of making things happen.

Bloke has struggled up forward had indifferent form down back is no where near a midfield role and you blokes are suggesting he takes on the hardest role in football.

Get real

Agree on Waite... maybe not CHB as such, but somewhere in defence.

People complain about him being a show-pony and drifting out of games, but he gets stuck in a forward pocket where all he can do is drift in and out of games.

In a team with Fisher as well, and neither our CHF, its utterly pointless to play Waite up forward. One of him OR Fisher (but now I think Waite), SHOULD be used in defence where they can be run into the play. Waite would be an excellent small/mid defender because he could play on anyone. He would have been a good match for Franklin.

And playing in defence he can't hide anywhere, and lairising costs him goals.

Well we could rotate him quarter by quarter for all 22 games, thats 88 positional changes. If by then we haven't completely [REDACTED] him up I don't know what will

I'd say he's a different case to your normal kid learning the game. I think he's at the stage BEFORE settling in to a position. At the moment, he just needs to learn the grand variety of skills and moments that make up an AFL game. I think trying him in different positions (as long as he gets good coaching in what to do in them) is important for his development. I reckon it'd be be an ok idea.

As good as you guys think he is
Why not use him as Special comments man on Fox Footy whilst coaching the team on Game day and to earn the rest of his money he could be skills coach on Tuesdays and thursdays and then on fridays he can go to Glicks to buy my Challas for me!!

At least I'm not the only one who's going to get shot down for it now... :P

Probably more to do with even remotely suggesting the idea of dropping Bryan after his first game back, not that he's done a heap since. Anyway that's for another thread.

Provided he has the leap and/or strength in the contest, it would be good to relieve French and place pressure on his around the ground work and the other ruckman who have abysmal tapwork.

Has he (O'hAilpin) ever played there in his life? Yeah I know everyone wants new things tried but at least let him get something up at VFL level in the ruck, can't throw him in the ruck for the first time ever at the highest possible level.

You guys must be nuts if you think he is ready for the ruck.

He barely has a grasp on the fundamentals of the game.

Please leave him down back where he can best learn the game with the support of Whitnall & Thornton.

Whats wrong with 1 qrt in the ruck, im not saying make him number 1 ruckman. Hes not ready for AFL but hes playing, its a suggestion, try him in the ruck in defence, what so hard about run at the ball and hit it, is Barnaby French a scientist that he can run and hit the ball and Carlos can't. Whats so hard about Ruck its the easiest thing in the world, u dont have to catch it, kick it or handball it, tap it or smack it.

If we think he's still learning the ropes in defence is there a risk with trying him in the ruck? Let him build some confidence first and then give him a crack? Besides we need him this week to take on Richo - we have NO ONE ELSE on the list who can take him.

I reckon some people mistake his height for ruck height, he plays shorter than his height requires, although he takes nice finger tipping marks.
