What a great interview. How refreshing to see a Carlton player on TV. A positive discussion for the club. How good was this kid? Gold!
Murphy said that his injury is the same as the one Kennedy had had last year. Kennedy had the op in the preseason (around draft time actually). So he assumes it's a 4-5 month recovery like Kennedy's, and definetely 4 months before he can get any physical attention to the injured shoulder.
So that implies he can start the physical stuff with it, if all goes well, end of November, and complete a preseason and be ready for the NAB Cup, but more importantly round 1, 2007 season.
He also mentioned he was advised that it would be better to operate and get it 100% at the time rather than wait and see how it pans out after 4-5 weeks time, only to delay the possible op, and screw up his preseason.
When asked by Tony Shaw when he thought Carlton would play finals he firstly said that 2007 would be great, but with maturity and pose, acknowledged that we're a young team with a lot of young kids yet to come through, and will in 2007, so maybe 2 years would be more realistic....and topped it off by adding "to get Carlton back to where that rightfully belong at the top".
No doubt he must be referring to himself, Walker, Waite Betts, Carazzo and Fisher as young developing guys, although established, but he'd be referring moreso to kids like, Kennedy, Russell, Blackwell, Betts, O'hAlpin, Bentick, who have had a taste but are still developing, and also the ones yet to make their inevitable Carlton appearance in Hartlett, Bower, Edwards, Jackson, Flint, Aisake and Raso with another really good 3-4 kids from this year's superdraft. He's referring to 24 kids that will take Carlton to the finals sooner than some believe. I believe.
All the panel, and private poll amongst the Fox Footy Team unofficially voted that Murphy should be the Rising star for the impact he had on games played in 2007. A stand out, regardless of the fact he has played only 12 games and 10 minutes.
Eade said that Murphy should be NRS because he has played the hardest position on the ground in the HFF, and also in the middle, and has been tagged but has been able to not only get the ball himself, but shown ability to dispose of it well and too advantage. Great skill, and great impact on many games this year for a first year player too.
Wow, I agree.
Tony Shaw would like his nephew Heath win it, but also agrees that Murphy should be NRS because of impact, and has got smarts like his father, and is a real footballer.
When asked what would Fev say to him if he didn't hit him on the chest, what would Fev say. He replied "hit me on the chest with the next one".
When asked who he thinks the capatin will be in 2007. He said it was out of Lance, Fev or Stevens. When pressed on 'his' choice, he replied that they'd all be good.
When asked about his mentors at the club, he mentioned that "Stevo took me under his wing and guided him, ...then Fev has too, ...[as have] all the older guys. They have all made it really comfortable for all the young guys, and they're all good."
As for his father's advice to him, he replied "take things one week at a time" touche....some other comments of his were...
this is his first serious injury ever.
he's used to being tagged from a young age
he doesn't go to pubs so can't get in trouble
goes to mates' places instead
spends a lot of time with the Carlton boys
He also got a few SMS from opposition supporters backing him as NRS, one Hawk from memory, but also wishing him a speedy recovery because they love watching him play. Ditto.
Murphy cannot win the NRS in 2007 because he has played too many games in his debut year to qualify. So let it be 2006.
Wow. This kid really confirmed what I believe, that this young group have a strong belief that they will have a good future with Carlton rising to the top again. I believe.
Go you good blue thing
