Kouta is the past, yes he may sell some things but its the same tired old broken down image.

When will this board actually do something about the future?

Retirement announcement in time for the final home game so he can be sent off?

It would be too much to hope that Kouta had a long hard look in the mirror after Sunday and admitted that he's not up to it anymore.

If they resign him, it had better be on a one year contract. Hird and Archer are playing on as well apparently. It's like they had a secret meeting of the Washed Up Hacks committee and made a pact to all go around again.

Yep.

Oh for the days when we could retire our champions in the sweet pastures of St Kilda or Footscray 8)

The way I see it is, it's a presser to announce

a) Kouta's retirement

b) Kouta will play on next year

c) something else

Until one of the above is annouced, it's kind of pointless getting oneself into a lather.

Gee wizz,

even Elliott could retire players. Look at Sticks and Diesel - when it was all over it was all over.

I think it's time the club made the decision for him, I can't see any advantage of keeping him next year

Is there any chance we could accept his re-signing and move on. If the young guys are good enough they'll force him out.

We talk about how poor our list is and the fact that delisting 8 players won't be difficult, keeping Kouta will mean at least 1 more of the others will go. Be happy for that fact if we can't find anything else.

I'm not accepting anything TBB.

My source says $300K.

That just cancels out Smorgon's contribution.

Time for heads to roll.

I've had enough.

Dave was on radio over the weekend talking about a send off if he retired and getting extra people in/ more money. Why announce today (3 days ahead of our final home game) that he's playing on next year?

Did he see his stats? 8 clangers from 16 possessions. Is that how he wants to be remembered?

Wether Kouta retires or plays on next year I will respect his decision. Paying him 300 K isnt that bad anymore and you have to ask question.

We still have to pay 92 percent of our salary cap which im sure were not close to. The money has to go somewhere

I wondered about that also, but as he's on the Veterans list only half his salary counts against the cap anyway.

What a shambles of a club!!!! Kouta doesn't want to be upstaged by Hird and Archer who will announce that they will continue.

My dear captain, you are not even worthy of shining these players boots, let alone continuing on next year. Call it a day, for goodness sake. Five years too late.

Give your spot up for some younger talent. $300k as reported by some on this site for next year. Are we serious!!!!

This is unfathomable!!!!

Don't know why there is such angst over Kouta resigning. We have a dearth of experienced players and while he is not the player he was he still contributes more than 75% of our list. The money is not massive andhardly precludes us from going and getting some proven talent if we had the balls to do it.

If it's a choice between Kouta or a Sporn / Livo / Prenda / Longmuir / Chambers type player on our list I'd rather have Kouta every time. You need some experienced players playing whilst the youngsters get experience or else we'll continue to be uncompetitive.

The people saying we don't need Kouta are really over-rating our list.
