Great news!...

And terrific that he was able to accept the 200k contract for the club...

I hope it shows some of you that he is willing to put the club first, he loves carlton and he will be a very handy player for us next year and will help our growing young team have a better year next year...

Who said he accepted 200K?

GWS and Kaplan have both said that he was given 300K/315K.

Oh yeah i see... They must be right!.. Boy, how silly of me!...

If two posters on a forum say Kouta is earning over 300k, then they must be right!...

On ABC 774, it was announced Kouta has signed on for 2007... believed to be the original offer of 200k...

I am comfortable with the decision. I know alot of you want a quick fix but our onfield transformation is going to take time.
If i was a kid arriving at the club next year i would be more in awe of the way kouta gets about the place than looking over to the corner and seeing Stevens poroxiding his hair.

Kouta has handed over the captain role and is playing for nicks so why not let him hang around showing the way in the gym and on the track.

Go Blues !

I have no issue with his playing on.
I just hope we actually have the wherewithal to play him as an impact player on wing / half-forward.
I know he's been average this year... But, if played correctly, he's still a bloody hard match-up.

Oh, it was said on radio … it must be right.

Whatever, the club has said they will be keeping the details confidential … so on that basis, and clearly given the varying figures, anything else is speculation.

I don't usually post on this site but couldn't help it on this topic.

B&F 2001/2005
2nd 1999/2003
3rd - (Should have won by a lot in 2000)
AFL MVP 2000
Led the goal kicking in 1997
These are just a few stats on the Carlton website.

He is our reigning Best and Fairest and most of you want him to retire. I think another year is great and hope he does well. We can keep him as a veteran and if as we are led to believe he has taken a huge pay cut this won't cost the club much under the cap at all (less than 150k).

Can't say I'm over the moon with the re-signing. Despite what Denis says I don't think he will be rested here and there. I expect more of the same with Kouta not being rotated enough and becoming a liability to the side rather than an asset - similar to how Stevens is managed!!

Can't we rest him in the Bullants for 21 weeks of the season like we did with Teague after his contract extension?

that's a classic - exactly what did happen to Teague in the end!

Gee No1B what would the ABC know...they don't have Naomi Robson!

As far as I can see....

Kouta signed for a nominal amount.
Next year there will be a variety of roles for him (hopefully) including rotating off the bench, midfield mentoring, forwrd line foil.
There will be a testimonial year function, merchandise and generally honouring of his last
"home" game as well as some other milestone events.
He is a genuine champ and a lot of supporters will be happy to see him go out this way.
He will not be Captain
I believe he will offer experience to an otherwise super young side...especially as the mentor rather than the Captain.

all in all a good decision.

I understand the need for new blood etc. BUT doesn't this also allows a signal the new era as a planned transition rather than function of time?

Kouta said it in his press conference
[quote]“The development of the younger players has certainly made me keener to continue playing and I am looking forward to enjoying some more success with the young playing group at Carlton in 2007,â€

The $315K includes the marketing component..
The thing is- if he has a solid year next year you'll all be cheering him like this thread never existed.

I never said that mate if you were listening...

Are you saying a typical supporter who posts on a forum would have more of an idea of what Kouta is being paid.. based on rumours...

Get Real...

I'm not sure what Kouta is being paid next year... But hey, if someone says Kouta is getting a huge pay-rise on 200k then that must be right because mean old Kouta's a money hungry scoundrel!!...

I can live with Kouta playing on.

I really can’t understand why there is such a negative reaction ….. if the bloke can contribute on an off the field for another year, that’s terrific.

There will be a lot more kids at the club next year, and I can’t think of a better role model for them than Kouta.

How likely is it that he'll have a solid year next year? He's too slow!

What position is he going to play?

In the midfield so that we have to leave out one of Blackwell/Bentick?
In the forward line so we have to leave out one of Kennedy/Fisher/Waite?

He is too slow and is just taking up a youngster's spot

Most of those things happened several years ago. Where will he come in the B&F this year?

I suppose that shows how far we've fallen Uncle John.

Last week we had his representative on the radio calling our club a "rabble".
Apparently we "insulted" Kouta and 200k of our money was a "disgrace".

When was the last time Hird, Judd, Buckley, Black or Voss had their contracts dragged through the media by their manager?
When did you last see Kouta chase someone and tackle them?

Role model?
Sorry Uncle John, the time was right to move on.

Are you suggesting that of the couple of thousand supporters who post online none of them have anything to do with the club or know anyone with intimate knowledge of the inside of the club?

If a "typical supporter" means you're sitting in the burbs cheering your team on every week then you're probably right but why would you assume that the people who work at the club (at all levels) and also support the club wouldn't post in here sometimes as well?

There are posters in here whose connections to the recruiting department are well known. Why assume that other departments aren't represented also? Especially when they're not happy about the way things are being handled.

Who knows?

There could even be the odd parent of a player.

Perhaps even the odd former player.

The thing is you just don't know do you?

Oh - and of course the club will leak that it's only $200K. They wouldn't want the rest of the football world to see how pathetic, spineless and stupid they are now would they?

Then its up to that youngster to force him out. If they're good enough they will.

Kouta played 50 reserves games himself before he was able to push someone out of the team.

Yeh exactly... So what! Kouta has had 1 bad game since he come back from his hand injury...

What im hearing from everyone is typical cliche'd garbage about keeping a youngster from having a spot in the team...

We need experience at the club and Kouta will provide that... I think he will have a better year next year than the one he's had this year...

Its like the criticism of Pagan!... This year I've seen pagan as being much more bold with the youngsters and giving more of them a go than previously... O'Hailpin could have been dropped a couple of times but stuck with him... He has stuck with Russel and Blackwell and is giving young Smith a go...

Kouta is gonna be of good value to the team in 2007... He hasnt been terrific this year but he has been better than what a lot of you make out he has been...

Who do we have in the Reserves to replace him??? No-one.
