One positive has been how much laughter this website has brought me since 11am yesterday.

GWS,

I'm very disappointed about the cheap shots that have been delivered at Kouta - more than 29 pages of it.

How can a guy like Kouta evoke so much disdain from Carlton supporters.

He has given so much to our Club.

I guess whilst we've been down he, along with a few others have become easy targets.

I probably should have taken a few deep breaths before I launched on you - I apologise. I had just read your post on page 27 of the other Kouta thread re Bruce Doull, as you say- times have changed since Bruce's day; however I felt that you were being a bit disingenious with that post.

I reckon Kouta is worth another year and at $250k I think that it is fair value, you and many others on here don't.

I was simply trying to start a thread which praised Kouta given that ample space on this site is at present devoted to knocking him. I was a tad disappointed (not surprised) when you & Synbad tried to carry over from the already substantial other Kouta thread.

I'll take that deep breath next time  .

regards
Ockham

You know, I am a Footy Fan. I have my opinions. I cheer for the Blues and I despair when things aren't going well. But, when it all comes down to it, I know Jack Sh!t about playing AFL, coaching a club, administering the club, sponsorship, marketing etc. And you know what, none of you have any idea either.

Synbad, there's a reason why you're posting on a fan forum rather sitting on the Board, on the MC, in the Coach's Box, or out on the ground. Do you know what that reason is? Because you, like me, like Ocham's Razor, and like everyone else that posts here, have no damn idea how to run an AFL club!

This is all opinions and ideas of people who really have no experience in such things. And that's fine, so long as we all understand what we're posting and that we're criticising people who do have experience and knowledge. I'm not saying that their decisions are correct, I'm just saying that they are in a MUCH better position to make those decisions than we are. And questioning their decisions is good, but please stop making the tone of posts that you know more than the people who are running the damn club...because you don't.

Synbad, I recall a post a few months ago when you were imploring Kouta to "do something for the club, anything!" FFS, the guy has played 250+ games, dual best and fairest, premiership player etc. But hang on, how does that stack up against your 6 million posts here? Half a game in the reserves means more than any number of posts here!

Sorry to jump in again, and I'm really not trying to single Synbad out, just that he's the most blatant at doing what I've described.

And Synbad, how are you going with those new directors and their personal guarantees. I'm ready to vote for them, just let me know when you've found them. Either that or admit that it was a foolish claim.

Fair enough Ockham.

I was actually going to leave this thread alone but the Synbad's post got me going again. After this post I'll leave you to it.

For the record I don't in any way deny how good Kouta was as a player at his best. I just don't see how that has anything to do with the way he uses his manager and the media to earn his living. No other senior "role model" that I can think of at any other club has endorsed this sort of behaviour from their agents and it's been happening for a long time.

I think if you read through my posts you'll find there are very few which either you or I would be likely to class as "cheap shots". I've criticised Kouta for allowing his manager to operate the way he does, I've criticised the club for a decision I think is regressive and I've stated that I don't believe he offers anything on-field or off to the club anymore that can't be replicated by another senior player.

As for the comparison with Bruce Doull, if you read it I was simply making the case for why I think of him as a "club great" but will only ever think of Kouta as a "great player". Not everyone can be Bruce Doull. The reason for drawing the distinction was in response to those whose main argument for giving Kouta whatever he wants is that he's a "club great". As far as I'm concerned "club greats" wouldn't allow Allison to do what he does.

By the way, I'm sure Kouta's a big enough boy to be able to cop any criticism served up in an online chatroom. Much of my annoyance with those who attempt to defend his actions of the past week stems from the fact that people seem to need to protect someone who I don't believe either needs or deserves that protection for reasons that continually return to his on-field performances of the past.

I want my club to renew itself and rebuild and to me this is a decision that reeks of the past.

That'll do for my contribution to this thread.

Over to you,

Cheers,

GWS

Signing Kouta for practically $125,000 with half of his contract outside the cap was a terrible move and we don't need to meet the minimum of 92.5% that the AFL stipulate. :garthp:

The kids we draft this year aren't going to see him as a mercenary like some of the Carlton diehards on this site, but a name player and a legend. If the kids are good enough to get a game then they'll force him out of the side like Brad suggested.

So you reckon Kouta might play for the Bullants next year???

I didn't say that, but you think he's going to keep talls such Kennedy, Bower, Setanta, Hartlett and a tall utility in Raso out of the side.

Raso?

How many kids can you play in the one side without having senior players?

Whitnall and Kouta going in the one year which is what you'd have us do would have us playing an under 19s side.

Synbads stalker returns.

Just to set the record straight. TC and it's previous incarnate TBV have had posters who are sponsors, Board members, immediate family of several players, recruiting staff and who knows what else involved at the Carlton Football Club posting.

Just because you know Jack Shit (your words, not mine), dont assume everyone else is the same.
John Elliott and his board know far more about running footy clubs than anyone here but it didnt stop them running Carlton into the ground.

Scrutiny from the fans keeps them honest.

why did Ockham feel he had to start a "positives" thread and then attack, however lightly, posters with a different viewpoint in his initial post?

Why not leave it as your own personal tribute to Kouta's achievements? or was your intention to invite some naysayers in for a tussle?

Synbad, why choose to invade Ockham's thread with your strident viewpoint on Kouta? You could have just let it slide and continue to post in other threads if you felt the absolute compulsion to continue with this.

Jimmae, I find your picture of the wounded bull extremely distasteful and would appreciate you removing it.

I'm tired of trying to put out spot fires by posters who should be able to behave better.

These questions and more will be answered next week in...

...Kouta thread #79538592016

I think this one might have sorted itself out Caz.

Ooops. I said I'd leave this room didn't I?

It was meant to be a matador at the mercy of a bull, I didn't even notice the bull was bleeding - fixed. :?

Seriously though.... where is the guy going to play? He cant jump, run or kick anymore.

Interested to know what Ockham's Razor thinks about the best place to play Kouta this season.

Realistically, his best role would be a lead-out/body fullforward (one that would still be too hard for him)... but gee.... we have one of those don't we???

Just a staggeringly absurd decision

One of your better efforts but you may as well remove the photo completely now - the whole effect has been lost.

Is this a Footy Forum or an Animal Liberationalists' Knitting Club? A bit of leeway for humour please....
