Kouta signs for another year...because he was asked to. It was considered and discussed at board level and the benefits outweighed the costs. Fact and live with it.

Good on him and I hope to see a bit of the Kouta of old in 2007 (and in the remaining few games of 2006). He has the opportunity to turn it around just as Fev has this year. Give him the opportunity and wish him the best. He has given all Carltonians great pleasure, now we all can cheer for him in the navy blue jumper knowing that it'll be his last year.

I hope that the handover of captaincy and a minimal salary will take a lot of the pressure off him next year, enabling him to concentrate on his game, the club and the kids without the srutiny and slander he has had to endure this year from 'loyal' supporters.

Synbad, whilst I appreciate your input in discussion, you're not playing the game posting negatives on a positive thread. Why post a positive thread? Out of respect. Call it sanctuary. I know you can read and comprehend. We understand your position on this subject, and you argue it very well, but your input in this thread is Bad form. Hate to say this, but it's almost Patrick Smith like.

The main grievances related to Kouta this year have been:

Big mouth Allison and the negative effect on the Carlton brand
His style of Captaincy
The alleged $1M he was being paid
Loss of his 2000 form in 2006 (at 33)

$250K is so small amount of money for such a big name, it is not worth even bringing up again. Now all of the above is closed, gone, over and finished business, we should move forward, and look forward to 2007. What's done is done. He doesn't have to play as a $1M man anymore, and nor should he be expected to at 34. He has served the club well. He just has to add value to the club, and support the kids, and if a younger player takes his position, I'm sure Kouta will be excited that the kids are developing, and his beloved blues are developing and moving forward to their rightful spot at the top. That's all we all want, Kouta or no Kouta.

We have 3-6 really good kids coming on board next year, and I know how I'd feel coming to a club and be given the opportunity to say I've played with Kouta (in his last year). I agree this is a benefit too good to overlook.

Thanks Kouta for the good times. Let's get it on in 2007, and let the good times roll.

why did Ockham feel he had to start a "positives" thread and then attack, however lightly, posters with a different viewpoint in his initial post?

Why not leave it as your own personal tribute to Kouta's achievements? or was your intention to invite some naysayers in for a tussle?

Synbad, why choose to invade Ockham's thread with your strident viewpoint on Kouta? You could have just let it slide and continue to post in other threads if you felt the absolute compulsion to continue with this.

Jimmae, I find your picture of the wounded bull extremely distasteful and would appreciate you removing it.

I'm tired of trying to put out spot fires by posters who should be able to behave better.

Mrs Caz, like a positives thread after a Carlton match, Ockham made a post intending on marking the positives of signing up Anthony Koutoufidies..

And still we have posters droning on and wanting to shit on his parade (Kouta's)...

Ockham has done nothing wrong..

Great post Bondiblue. I too felt he should have given it away but after thinking about it, the club/coach have probably made the right decision. Lets support the great man for another year and hopefully he won't disappoint.

Ok...anything that is funny can stay.

look...I found it distasteful, and I had several complaints about it, so others felt the same. It was not vital to jimmaes point, and even he was happy to remove it when he realised.

bondi do you know what the postives were for the board I would be very interested.

I have no probs with Kouta the player going on - good on him and I agree, without the pressure of the money/captaincy/expectancy he may have an indian summer but what fascinates me are the positives the Board assumes the club will get.

Pleasee explain if you can.

And if this is in the wrong thread sorry but your post intrigues me because it is exactly that part of it all I do not get (which is nothing knew I agree  ).

Maybe it's the message it sends to the younger players that if they become legends of our club, then to a certain extent they will be able to retire on their own terms rather than being forced out the door.

I know there is also the counter-argument that the message is that we are prepared to tolerate mediocrity, but remember we are talking about a great servant of the club, who was an important member of our best season ever, and who used to get me genuinely frothing at the mouth to go to the football.

I agree the benefits of him staying are neutral at best, but Kouta playing in 2007 won't be very high on the list of excuses if we are not vying for a flag come 2010.

The benefits may be that at least the young kids can say if you are loyal 2 the club you will be looked after in the long run. Read between the lines people, Kouta has been a fantastic player and very loyal servant of our club. Has been there for 20 years and does not deserve the utter rubbish that morons have been posting about him. Alot of people have very short memories of this Carlton Great! He is our only Premiership player left on the list so FFS a little respect wouldn't go astray. You should all be ashamed 2 call yourselves carlton supporters he is hardly holding anyone back from playing. Or haven't any of you realised we are no good at the moment. What would you like 2 happen let's see - Play josh all year as a 19 year old and then end up stuffed at the age of 23. Ease them into SENIOR footy the kids are only 18-20 sooo not ready.
Next year will be a celabration of the great career of a champion person and player. Thanks 4 all the memories Kouta it's been a great career thus far!

see this I struggle with. Next year we, a once great club, are dedicating a whole year in celebration of Kouta?

decidely St Kildaesque if you ask me!

oh for the years of the blanket and tossed coins!

brilliant post Bondi and as you say lets get on with it.

I don't see Kouta being the marketing face, indeed i would expect the young guys to be.

I don't see Kouta as being the man -a part of everything on and off the field - i expect a young hungry new captain to be.

I see Kouta as serviceable a body amongst a limited number of ageing bodies. And he is a lifeline to the past. While i don't subscribe to dwelling on past greats and club success, it is important to maintain certain touchpoints - particularly when our continued lack of recent success remains thick in skies of Princess Park.

Kouta is loyal, he only speaks highly of the club and now he can do what he does best - keep a low profile.

In 2007, Kouta at an affordable amount will add experience to a club that is increasingly young. Barnaby is close to the end and Matty Lappin's body is perhaps in a similiar position to Kouta's.

Go Kouta and Go Bondi Blue.

What is the urgency of signing up Kouta?

Sorry bv i probably took it out on the wrong person Sorry db but kouta will do more good to the young playing group than some people can imagine Ihave coached young guys at a 1st class level in soccer in tassie and what pagan and the carlton heirachy are doing is spot on. I am just as pissed off as every carlton supporter in the world is about our situation but we need to go down this track in order to get back to were we belong. What pagan and co are putting in place is spot on but i agree with some that we need a change in support staff. But one thing is right Kouta is of greater value to this young group than some of us realise and pagan knows that and so do the Board.
