Much respect to Bradley too, who gave Motley one of his premiership medals.

I'm with you electric Blue. I see him on Tv and having been old enough to see him play and feel the thrill of the 87 flag, i tear up to.

He is an ABSOLUTE gentleman and a credit to the Motley family. He is a Carlton legend and I love seeing how much he loves the club still.

Such a shame when you see so many f**k wits with all the skils and talent throw it away due to booze, etc.

we got belted in the 1986 GF by the hawks.....but there were some glimmers of hope that you took away from the MCG that day...

one of them was definitley Peter Motley....i think he played on Buckenarra off a HBF....there were flashes of brilliance from the man against what was a very strong Hawthorn tide

what then eventuated prior to 87 was devastating.

Peter motley is no doubt a legend and a person of amazing courage -full credit also goes to all of those around him who rallied in support.

Interesting footnote - in 1987 the Blues were also galvanised by Des English suffering from Cancer.

Most special moment for me was Sticks on the dias receiving the 1987 cup - he raises the cup and turn towards the stands to acknowledge the two, who obviously played a big part in the teams motivation

Dont know if anyone else remembers this but late in 87 we played the Lions at home (my last live game in Melb). From memory (or maybe its rose coloured glasses) we were under the pump at 1/2 time. Durning the interval both boys were bought out onto the stand in the social club. They received a standing ovation from all at the ground and we went on to smash the Lions.

I have a very vague memory of that as well - couldn't tell you who it was against, bit I do remember seeing the footage on the news.

OK, am seeding it now if anyone wants it.

Headliners is a fantastic show, well researched and well produced. The Part 1 & 2 thing is annoying (why not just piss off something like grumpy old men and play the whole thing) but very impressive.

what if what if what if....

Yeah, the combination of the emotion of hearing the story in such detail, Molly's account, the extent of the injuries and wondering how much more silverware we'd have had me in tears last night.

Neil Kerley's claim that Mots would have been THE BEST PLAYER EVER TO LEAVE SA boggles the mind.

Where's that f*cking time machine so I can be there that Thursday night and bail Mots up for an autograph before he gets in his car.

As noted already amazing that Molly had not spoken about this until now, not even to Motley's family. Well done to Meldrum and to FoxFooty for shedding new light on this terrible story.

Molly's recollection of the Good Samaritan GP who came out of a house near by and took charge to helped stabilise Motley in the Car before the Ambulance arrived, was also a revelation. I wonder if they have tracked him down for part 2, it would be a good story to hear his recollections and mabe reunite him with Motley now.

Peter Dean made an interesting speech that day too. From that Grand Final on they switched the microphones off whilst players were receiving their Premiership Medallions.

Why were there so many good players back in those days? The game is suppose to be faster and players are suppose to be stronger now, but seeing the old footages Motley played, he would have been recruit of the century today, he could have easily adapt into todays game speed!

Or more to the point why did we have so many of them:

In 1986 in no particular order:

- Kernahan
- Bradley
- Motley
- Hunter
- Johnston
- Dean
- Silvagni
- Rhys- Jones
- Maclure

Ah yeah - a little fly found its way into our ointment called the Draft started that year.

Really put's life into perspective and how fete can change life in a matter of seconds. If that accident never happened would of we have won more premierships?
I was only a young tacker when this tragic accident happened and haven't really understood or educated in what exactly is wrong with Mott's, can someone go into detail of what exactly happened after that car crash ? Is he paralised or brain damaged?

Interestingly there's been no word from the guy who reckons they were drag racing since Headliners aired.

Probably the greatest tragedy in football history.

We still love you Mots.

Which guy?

Do you think there was an actual GP there or was Molly in so much shock that he was imagining things and he was actualy the one who saved his life? No one was aware that there was a 3rd party involved in the rescue of Mott's life till the Ambo's same????
