Saw Mots at the footy on Saturday. Looking pretty well considering. Greatest injustice of all time he didn't win 1985 Magarey. Grant Fielke, you've got to be kidding me

Just an out and out champion in every way.
He was abiut injury prone and after one lengthy spell on the sidelines hed came up through the ressies against Richmond at the MCG.

His first touch was a 40 meter laser pass that hit his team mate on the chest.
His second touch was exactly the same except it was with his left foot.

Along with the Dominator and Doully he was my favourite player.

I couldnt read this thread for abit because what happened was a tragedy to the club to us and more importantly to Motts himself.

Always a champion!

Definately the Lions - cant forget my last game living in Melb. The thing that really hit home was the Fitzroy supporters also rose with up and applauded.

I assume he was speeding, but maybe not so. From the graphic they showed, he wasn't entirely at fault, with a car moving late into his lane causing him to oversteer and cross the road.

From what they were saying on headliner they reckon the car was airborne and hit on 45 degree angle into the drivers side. This would've caused maximum damaged.

Interestingly there's been no word from the guy who reckons they were drag racing since Headliners aired.

Probably the greatest tragedy in football history.

We still love you Mots.

Which guy?

Played a great game that night.
As well I think it was against the bulldogs at the kennel he was brilliant.
Pity him and Braddles were drag racing that night home from training.

Motts was unusual in that he had ALL the attributes: skill, toughness, courage. He was almost like a combination of many players. Great mark too (specially backing back into packs).

Peter Motley was and still is the greatest player that I have seen play.

As a kid I saw Peter play for Sturt against the likes of Bradley (who played for Port), Mcintosh (Norwood- and was rated by Diesel Williams as the best player he ever stood in State of Origin Games), Mark Naley and of course Sticks.

I saw Motley tear his opposition apart on many occasions, as a wingman but on occasions in the centre.

In one game as a 19 year old he stood on Bradley and ran rings around him. Bradley was to short to play on him and Motley could cover the ground just as good as the brilliant 21. He had a great mark and lot of dash. In a modern day comparison he was like a mix between Aaron Davey and Jezza, freakish and consistent simultaneously. He never flinched at the contested ball and often you would hear the crowd grimace as he threw himself at the contest.

Imagine how many premierships we would have won with both Bradley and Motley in our midfield!

SCARY

After Peter Motley's accident I had the fortune to meet Peter many times, as my mother was a carer of his at the Julia Farr Centre in Adelaide which was situated very close to my primary school. Even through the initial stages of his recovery he had a presence of greatness.

His courage through adversity was amazing.

It is sad that Motts didnt get to shine for the Blues but it is great to know that as Peter recovered he helped many others along the way.

Right now our club has to fight adversity, and we should take note that champions like Peter Motley always overcome the obstacles that are put in front of them.

So should we.

You sit and watch the brave fight that Mots has put up since the accident and hear the speech he gave when he presented the Jumpers to Harts and Russell and it makes you wonder why those weak b’stards who refuse to have a real dip week in and week out stay at the club. How guys like Campo can hold a club to ransom and where we would be if he had’ve stayed back to sign an autograph or 2.

For those who haven’t heard the speech from the Jumper presentation 2005, get a copy and listen to a man who still bleeds navy blue!

IT’S MY CLUB…….. IT’S PERSONAL!!
