Yes.

I know times are different, but we once did steal the best player in the league after a down period, and it turned the whole club around.

His name was Ronald Dale Barassi.

Not only is Judd a good player, but he's a leader. And, sure, Gibbs (or whomever) may turn out to be as good as Judd (hard to imagine anyone being significantly better)... But not immediately.

We could fast-track our development by up to three years by getting him.

And the positive press would be magnificent. Imagine - "Blues poach West Coast Captain". That'd generate some support and excitement about the place.

i was thinking of ron barrassi too but wasnt sure if he had a good career at carlton i know he coached us to a few flags but didnt know what kind of a player he was for us.

No trade, we are building our own dream.

Something has to be worth the pain of the last 5 years.

Think of it in 3 years time, when a bunch of current 17-20 year olds - walker, betts, blackwell, hartlett, russell, murphy, kennedy, bower, raso, edwards, gibbs hit their straps as 20-23 year olds!...

..at the same time Judd will be 26 and over the hill :P

....seriously lets keep what we have and pray that we don't rain on our own parade by employing one G Thomas as coach.

AW for pick #2?

Not me, his body type was always going to take a bit of time to develope and has probably still got kilos to add. His workrate and attitude is first class and I think those flashes of brilliance are becoming far more consistant. The club has put the hard yards into Walks and I reckon he's about to explode in a massive way in the next year or 2.

The finished product of Andrew Walker will be a vey impressive unit. Playing some pretty decent footy either with, or recovering from a broken hand.

When we get some better players, I think AW could be a better version of Brett Burton - imagine the headaches he could cause up forward.

I'd do the Judd trade in a bloody flash.

And i'd near give him the Captaincy straight away, too.

He isn't considered the best player in the league for nothing. That combination of speed, clean ball handling, slick foot skills and goal kicking is exactly what we need at the blues. Not to mention his on-field leadership, his outstanding off-field demeanour and the huge marketing opportunity that would accompany his change to and leadership of the club.

All that and he is only 22 years of age.

You would be foolish not to, IMO. This guy is a once in a generation footballer.

I'd also expect that the West Coast Eagles would want more for him than the no.1 pick.

New guys get 23 minutes, 6 trips to the bench and a run with role.
If he can handle that, we'll take him.

@#$%&! Judd.

Pick one, put him on Judd and watch him smash Judd into last century!

#1 for Judd? No.

Haven't we been rebuilding from the ground up?

Haven't we been told that kids are the only way to go?

Haven't we declared that no first round picks will be traded?

Haven't we F@%&#! learnt anything?!

On the other hand, what if whoever we get for pick #1 gets hit by a bus? Oh Christ, yes, quick give away the pick for Judd. NOW. NOW. NOW!!!

what if judd gets hit by a bus?

You're either too smart for me, or you missed the irony. ;) (Which if you weren't on TC around this time last year is quite possible.)

I still wouldn't trade #1.

yep, I feel the same way

Lets get a true Carlton player and build up from blokes like Murphy, WALKER (trading Walker... ), Simpson etc etc.... Even Fevola.

1 club men who can retire as true Carlton champions.

It takes a special player to move clubs and be added to our hall of fame. Guys like Barassi, Williams etc.....

But, here's a good question: Is Barassi a "Carlton champion"?? or just a "champion"... and does it matter??

Sounds like Lachlan Hansen

I'd take Judd for pick #1 in a heartbeat. Imagine Judd, Murphy and Simpson in the midfield along with Walker, Russell and Blackwell.

Interesting, Humpers..... what happened to the overwhelming importance of KPPs???? Wouldn't our defence still be stuffed if we got Judd and not Hansen????

:shows hand:

Yep, 1 club men. The longer they've played for us the sweeter it is when we can turn on them in their last seasons.

Barassi will be remembered for his time at Carlton as the man who changed football forever with the play on and handball at all costs approach to the 2nd half of the 1970 Grand Final.

Not sure he's a Carlton champion though

Pick 1 for Judd would be a steal...given the Thompson, Hay deals I reckon Judd would be worth pick 1 plus another two first rnders and then you would need to be offering close to a million a year....ditto for Jonothan Brown.

re: Pavlich...very good...but not in Judd or Browns class.......if Brown was fit which he probably wont ever be 100% I would take him ahead of Judd....

You'd be pissed off if you traded pick 1 for Judd and whoever went at 1 turned out to be as good or better.

Grow our own I say.

I was all ready to quote the first post and reply with the following:

"Its that kind of forward thinking that we need at our club... :garthp: "...

It would have been my first legitimate use of the :garthp: emoticon. While I'm disappointed, I'll offer my response as thus:

No.

This is a stupid post,The Carlton Football Club would trade the number 1 pick for Chris Judd in a second,as long they can stay within the salary cap, they wouldn't even think twice. The best player in the comp who is 22 and still could play for 10 years, while the number 1 pick has never played a league game agains't anyone and might never be a star, nothing is certain in life.
