Before the explosion
comes the wind -
ripples of movement
that signal
what comes behind;
a force not to be denied.

Lately that ripple of wind,
that sigh,
has touched my cheek,
ruffled the skin
of my hand,
caressed the lashes
above my eye.

It is the ripple of Setanta's run
Eddie's freaksish goal,
of Fev becoming the player
we always hoped he would.

The ripple circles young Muph
the eye in the storm,
runs behind Simmo
who never stays still long enough
for the riiple to pass him.

T-Bird is the ripple
Bower too
young Blackers
and raso perhaps.

Tex rides the breeze
lifting up high
or running down the field
in a blink of an eye.

The breeze is soft still
and quivering
like the new flame of a candle
easy to snuff out -
yet there, present,
casting the first light
in the dark night.

The Bluebaggers must just be coming back
The Bluebaggers might just be coming back!

It is still far off
like sand
hovering on the horizon
before the desert storm
and more must be done
for the explosion to occur
but still
after these years of stillness
and drought
and parched Bluebagger lips
and aching Carlton heart
it is nice to feel a breeze;
to turn the cheek and feel
the coolness kissing flesh,
to feel a lightness
in the Old Dark Navy heart.

The explosion is coming
a way off no doubt
almost less than a thought
yet still
a pre-rumble also.

It is coming
and I will be there
stamping my feet in the stands,
drawing my son close
and joining in the roar
of a thousand Carlton throats
open so the Old Dark Navy joy
can come pouring out
like the rain in summer
drawing the thunder out of the sky
and onto the ground.

The Bluebaggers are coming!
The Bluebaggersd are coming!
