Love Sticks but he isn't the type to be a modern coach. Maybe Fitzy for President/Coach - make contract negotiations interesting

What about Sticks as a stand in coach with Brett Ratten and Peter Dean as assistants

If Sticks want to Coach why not... With a good support network around him it could work.

Fitzy becoming president is something many have talked up for years. If he wants the job he can make it his.

Will these changes happen ? I wouldn't bet on them but i wouldn't saddened if they did...

Thats all . :-D

I don't think it is a silly as it sounds first listen.
Kernas is a loyal guy and might be willing to do it cheap whilst we pay out Pagan, Fitzy in his recent AFL role on the board might seen somethings that have sparked his "desire".
Dream ticket for mine, with a good assistant to Sticks.

Agree 100% Bookie, Throw in the fact that the players will play 'for' Sticks and also the marketing value and it would be great situation until we improve overall as a club and then progress to a young gun type coach.

Sticks to Director of Coaching and Barry Mitchell Caoching
Bring it on

Cant believe you are serious

do you want Lance as playing coach?
do you want him to retire?
do you have any idea?

Mike Fitzpatrick as president no worries.

Sticks as coach - would have some concerns, as yet too prove anything in coaching circles I would have thought.

No doubt players would play for sticks, but even so, if after a year he wasn't upto it, I would hate too erode his legend staus at the CFC.

I think we would have Sticks ....SOS and Ratts as the assistants, a honeymoon period and then ......a let down when the hype ran out....

I would prefer a coach from outside the club....someone who has honed their skills and cant wait for a challenge...rather than a coach who has got the job by default and circumstances....be a big mistake IMHO....

I tend to agree with Elwood.

paulg, got a very vague feeling lurker might have been joking

Re Sticks. Great Carlton man but such an appointment smacks of Jezza's return in 89. It would be the ultimate act of desperation. If DP goes then we really need someone who is going to do a great job. Maybe Mitch could be given it as a low cost 2 year option, see how he goes. If it doesn't work we would be in the same position as if DP stays. We need a serious review. I'm uneasy if it it just Sticks and Gleeson reviewing. Whatever we do we need to be pretty sure it is going to work out better than DP getting through to 08

Nah, it was Ryan Fitzgerald for president, David Kernahan for coach.

If you were an assistant coach at the moment and you were hungry for a challenge and wanted to coach a team up the ladder, I couldn't see why you wouldn't look past Carlton as your next coaching destination.

If Fitzy came back and took on the Presidency, I'd be dancing in the streets. However, work commitements I believe won't allow it, he would have to resign from the AFL commission. He has recently taken on a new business role, and has no time. Spoke to a guy a few months ago who works with Fitzy, says he doesn't have the time. Hope that's all wrong.

As for Kernahan as coach, I'd be livid. Yes, he is a stalwart of the club, an out and out champion, and as Navy Blue as they come. However, what has he done to prove his credentials as a coach? He was an assistant for a while (isn't now, only on the match committee), when we were spectacularly unsuccessful on the field. I have written more on that in another post in another thread.

I have no doubt that Kernahan's heart is in the right place...but I have seen no sign that he has what it takes to be a successful coach.

If we were to change coach, I would like to see a proven assistant with considerable experience, from another club...a Longmire...a Harvey (I know there are plenty here who hate that thought)...someone like that (in the absence of any experienced coaches being available (Ayres - no thanks!).

Thoughts?

Was it Bruce & Phil or Ernie Sickly ........ ???? Must have been Bruce & Phil coz Ernie is on in the afternoon .... !!!!!

I'm sure I've heard Sticks state that he wasn't interested in a full time coaching position.
