Ahhhh.... .my specialties. I just haven't been able to make up anything good enough to qualify this week... the footy club is doing good enough on their own.

Probably.... but the first part will go up on Tuesday of next week and I have every confidence that this will all be sorted out by then and I'll have a crisis-free day to tel everyone about how good we were in 1906.

Oh my god - is that Dunstall flying outside my office window?

Part 1 of 'the First of Many' should go up sometime today. I may not have time to find it so if any readers see it on the main site, please link it here.

It has been written using real press reports of the day plus a large number of stats and player tidbits from Stephen Williamson. We've also had a specific graphic prepared just for the article so it's a serious attempt at footy journalism.

Part 1: The Teams and teh First Half
Part 2: The Second Half and the Wash-Up
Part 3: The Annual Report

Have a read and let me know by PM what you think,

Cheers

M

I know how you're feeling Athorn.

Flags is what Carlton is all about. We have 16 of them and we should flaunt them from the first to our most recent. A gentle reminder to those who are too young or have forgotten the good times, our standards and our achievements.

Flags are part of our fabric, part of our culture, and certainly our expectation. It helps to make the 17th flag more realistic, and puts our destiny in perspective. No, we are not going to win one every year, but history suggests that we will win them when we're up there again.
100 years of flags means we make them our mission.

That's 100 years of flags and success, experienced by generations of supporters, and now the next generation can look forward to their turn; in good time. When we're up there again, just watch the crowd sizes increase, you'll see different generations once again, come out from under their rock, standing shoulder to shoulder screaming ' Go Blues', watch the build up of hysteria, and listen to everyone refer to our flags again, and the kids on the paddock in the Old Dark Navy Blue jumper will know about our rich history that preceeded them, and what's expected of them, and they'll want to stamp their name in the Hall of Fame at Princes Park. When that happens, noone will be talking about our 5 year sentence, they will be talking about the previous 100 years and our destiny and ability to overcome adversity.

Kids too young to know, and depressed with their team's performance in recent years, whose dad forced them to barrack for the Blues need something to hang their school hat on. Bragging rights.

These kids should know that our history is not filled with disappointment and failure as most of the other teams higher on the ladder (St Kilda, Doggies, Tigers, Demons...with the exception of Crows and Eagles teams and the Bumbers.

Give the kids something to hope for by believing in our ability to get through adversity; history is on their side.

That's GOLD!!

Keep up the good work Molsey.

out of interest, did any of our competitors do anything for VFL premierships 1897 - 1905?

Great to hear something coming to fruition....

Molsey, do you really think Essendon* would be celebrating their 1897 "win".....have a think about it

The less attention they draw to those reords the better....(1924 may be another to "miss" on the celebration)

Great article molsey! Looking forward to the next two.

I'm sure if everyone involved in that win at the club knew they would be honoured 100 years later they would be very proud.

It's a pity it's not linked directly from the main CFC page, i think a few people will miss it where it is.

I think the players from 1906 will be quite chuffed about this celebration of their grand final victory and Carltons first flag.

I do recall that Mick Grace in that year was the first player of any club to kick 50 goals.

Its really not the same now though, playing at full forward as an ecto plasmic entity on the astral plane.

Its one of the main stories up now so hopefully more people will see it. If this is the sort of thing you would like to read more of please let the Club know,

Yeah, come to think of it there's no one to accept anything in that regard. Just think positive thoughts... OK?

If there are any other anniversaries of traditions that we should celebrate on the Club site I'd appreciate some warning and I'll try to put something together. If it do that it'll get up in some form or another.
