Good work BW. Interesting to see so many of our top possession winners at the lower end (eg Stevens, Carrazzo, Houlihan) of the clangers count. Is there a way we can compare our list overall to say a Top 4 team?

Interesting, but a bit like free kicks.

It's not how many it's where they happen and what the result is.

I'd love to know how many of our clangers resulted directly in opposition goals during the year. I'm guessing plenty.

They should grade the clangers like
Missing a shot from 20 metres in front should be worth 10 points
Kicking the ball to the opposition from full back 8 points
Turning the ball over when kicking to the 3 on 1 maybe 1 point

and also have coaching clangers

Failing to use the bench 10 points
Using a guy who is capable of 70 goals a year to plug a hole in the back line 10 points
Drafting Ricky mott 20 points
Using cliches in press conferences 50 points

this is fun the list could be endless

Is a clanger an unforced error, or does stuff that happens under pressure count as well?

A clanger is halfway between a clinger and a hanger. 8)

The numbers do tell a story, and maybe not the whole story, but at the very least they are seriously important statistics to consider.

Thanks for those Blue World. Great effort.

Firstly, I would like to apologise to Carrazzo, Stevens, Houlihan, Wiggins and Bentick, as I thought that their clanger count would have been higher. Well done and keep up the good work.

Scotland, Simpson and Murphy didn't surprise me how low their clangers were despite the high number of disposals they accumulated. They were great this year.

Kennedy, Russell and O'hAlpin will look at these and do something about it, no doubt; I think Kennedy was a bit stage fright, and brand new to the business, and Setanta is new to the game, but came good at the end; as would have Kennedy. Russell just needs a few more full games.

Bryan didn't surprise me, as his strength (kicking) let him down a lot. DeLuca and McGrath didn't surprise me either. But I'm really disappointed in Kouta though. Although I did take note of his all too numerous clangers, I didn't think a fifth of them were; disappointing.

Waite's % surpised me a little and find his results also disappointing. He's got the world at his feet, represented Australia at 22 and now he has to do something about switching the brain on 100 minutes and concentrate on execution; I beleive its a brain is faster than the feet situation. Maybe playstation using his toes might fix that up. Whatever it is, he must tidy up that statistic.

All I know is that passing to Eddie Betts when manned up is not a clanger, but should be.

Isn't it a completely meaningless statistic without context? For example:

Simmo kicks out from fullback with a long beautiful left-foot kick that finds McGrath on the half-back flank.

Mcgrath doesn't play on. He goes back and assesses his options and after using his full 30 seconds still can't make up his mind so he chips it 15 metres sideways to Walker, registering an effective disposal in the process.

Walker takes his man on and tries to create some play, but because Mcgrath dicked around for so long, the opposition has completely flooded back. Walker is left with option of kicking to a 3 on 1, or attempting an ambigous kick to try and find Fevola on the lead. He chooses the latter option, but it doesn't come off because the opposition ruckman drops back in front and chops it off. Walker registers the turn over and the clanger.

Whose fault is it really that we turned the ball over?

Don't get Fev's....he's a very accurate kick...even if scoring points are counted as clangers....if not ...he doesn't pass much so how does he turn it over???

Juts not sure about this stat...

the rest is excellent....rmove anyone who has had less than 100 possies and the list looks right....not what many want to complain about but pretty correct non the less

ps...it's O'hAilpin

Am not sure why BW should hjave to do any more work!

One complicating factor is the number of 15-30 metre sideways or slightly forward kicks. In the modern game they can evidence a flood up ahead and doing these kicks, although completed, does nothing to overcome the flood unless part of a ring-a-rosy kickathon like the Swans (which we cant do due to skill level).

Id suggest its impossible for us to break out the real clangers without clear definitions and some of us going through the games.

Clangers aren't just bad kicks. It could be tripping over, running into things, losing your keys, dyslexia, tourette's, dropping your glass etc.
