Look, these 24 year and under proclamations by the board are stupidity.
Each case is different and it all depends.
They sound good but what happens in 24 months if Judd wants to come to Carlton??
"Sorry Juddy.. you dont fit the profile".
Just more stupidity......
You might use that as a guideline in your recruiting profile inhouse but you just dont go telling the whole world its a hard and fast rule...
Just sheer stupidity... its a club that just doesnt have a clue at the moment.
And you just have to keep coming back to the Kouta decision... why sign him for around 300k and have half of that being paid outside of the salary cap when we need money???
It wouldnt suprise me if Fisher and Russell are trade bait anyway...
I completely disagree. Its not stupidity, its setting the scene for what we are suposedly trying to do. Its part of our overall plan (or should be) regarding strategy, finances, playing list. Id much prefer an announced plan and the Footy Department having to seek OK to trade for anyone outside of the rules.
Or even better lets have a youth policy....
By the way has anyone ever seen it?
That says:
Over the years Carlton has at times given away early draft picks for experienced players from other Clubs. Given the result of this strategy, a contributor to our decline over 2002 to 2006, Carlton shall adhere to a recruitment policy as follows:
* CFC will utilise all Top 50 draft picks on the best available young player in the draft. At this stage of our rebuilding we will look for:
- players of great character
- leaders of the future
* CFC may seek to utilise later picks or PSD choices on older players as long as:
- Under 24 (23 ) years of age
- Good track record (define)
- For positions of identified list weakness.
Our Youth Policy shall remain in place until the 2007 National Draft, and be reassessed at or before that time depending on progress overall.
