Just ventured in to Lygon Street and took Little Willie 1 & 2 to the Carlton shop to spread the gospel...

It's closed...during school holidays...(good grief!!)

So, noses pressed to the window, I talk about the Nicholls/Dean/Brown posters high on the wall...and talk about the great looking heritage jumpers on display. They absolutely glow next to the crappy current jumper (if Smorgo was ever looking for a sure winning moment, he should announce we are changing back to this great successful image...but that's not what this post is about...)

LW 1 & LW 2 then move to where the framed "last game at Princes Park" jumper is on display in the window...(brace yourselves)

LW 1 (an 11 year old) starts to read the plague and notices something is wrong:

* Firstly the printed copy is too big for the cardboard window it sits behind and the text disappears of either end of the display, so you can't read it...

* Then, he notes that the score from the match is incorrect...

* Then, he reads the information about "biggest winning margins" etc at Princes Park and asks how Carlton could win against the Western Bulldogs in 1945..."Weren't they called Footscray?" he asked. Then, he read on about a Kangaroos defeat in the 1960s..."Weren't they reaaly called North Melbourne in those days?" he asked...

* But it gets worse...LW 2 (a 9 year old) is gazing at the large photograph use to highlight the last match at Princes Park between Carlton and Melbourne. Sure enough...it's a photo of a match between Carlton and Adelaide!!

Quietly, I changed the topic and usher them away from this embarrassment.

I'll happily volunteer my time to proofread any proposed merchandise/memorabilia before it goes on sale, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Might want to highlight this one to our good friend GWS - he seems to be a champion of the staffing levels of "The Carlton Shop" in Faraday St.

As for memorabilia - check out the score on the photo of the Carlton 1970 Premiership side - it is wrong.

The Carlton shop is a poorly staffed op shop. It's a disgrace.

Isn't that just typical of our current state?

I dont have a problem with the staff in there - they do their best - its just the number of staff on hand.

They are under resourced.

I'd volunteer there in a heartbeat if I was living in Melbourne.

If anyone from the club is reading this - I'LL VOLUNTEER MY SPARE TIME FOR THE BLUES.

Just tell me what I can do and I'll do it.

I had a look at the one in the window on display and sure enough it looked like a Carlton V Crows match.

But the words on the plaque were Limited Edition Sample and I don't recall it having a price on it. Though it did have the signatures of Kouta, Pagan and Campo on the jumper which would make it priceless. 8)

The one inside the shop was numbered as part of a series and on sale for $150.

Down from $495.

I understand that the reason the shop was closed yesterday was for stocktake. The shop at Princes Park was also closed for stocktake yesterday.
