There are two issues going on here. Just to summarise:

1.

Synbad (and Synbad only) has stated that the Blues' board have received advice from Simon Wilson QC that the removal of our Prority Pick (no.1) in the 2002 draft was unlawful considering the description of the priority pick in relation to aiding mediocre clubs and existing independant from other picks in the National Draft.

This argument is strengthened by the fact that we were allowed to retain our 2003 Priority Pick (no.2) even though we were also stripped of all other early picks that year, demonstrating a gross lack of consistency in firstly the removal (2002) and then retainment (2003) of the Priority Pick.

According to Synbad the club is fairly confident that we have a pretty strong case to have our 2002 Priority Pick reinstated.

2.

I might need some help with this one.

If i'm following correctly, the shifting of the Priority Pick rule change from season 2006 onwards is deemed unfair because the Priority Pick system is in place firstly to help struggling clubs, yet the fact that we are obviously mediocre yet ineligible by half a game is discriminatory especially considering that the rule change was initiated on the fly after season 2005 -- when our results were known and therefore intentionally meant not to assist us this year?

Therefore people here think that we have a case re: ruling that the 2006 & onwards rule change was unfair?

Someone might have to help me clear this up a bit!

In my opinion the first argument is the strongest.

A bit f$%^ing late now to be contesting the penalty. Did we have to wait for their b#t@h Collo to leave the board before we would challenge the AFL?
It's all over, time to move on.

I dont think anyone could have predicted how bad we were and how long it would take for us to turn things around back then.

4 or 5 years on.. EVERYBODY knows... and i think its the right time for the club to come out and do something about it.

Weve served our time...and it will still take another couple of years..

So Synbad you're convinced this isnt just a political smokescreen to be seen to at least be doing something?

I think we should go ahead full steam on option one.

Option 2, hhhmmmmmm, I think it is a case of stiff shit Blues. I know I would be saying that if the Pies were in our position!!

I dont know what it is... but they better go through with it... talking about it is one thing... but we need to make sure they follow it through.

The loss of those picks and especially that priority pick has had catastrophic fallout to this football organisation and its lingering effects are still being felt.

I had a chat to a legal eagle ages ago about the whole Goddard thing and he said if it was tested we most likely would have won.
The problem was the AFL were hellbent to get us and they did.. and by getting Goddard we ran the risk of being sent to the stone age so we decided against it.

I think a few years on we are in the stone age.. and we need a shot in the arm.

The club has done everything right by the AFL and we need genuine assistance.

I think a settlement will most likely be reached and if we dont back down.. we should get back that pick...

We are after it...!!!.. and legally were set up to fight it..

This year i've gone from Silver AFL Membership to Full Membership (don't worry, i've got Carlton Club Support & have a social club membership also).

The upgrade to Full membership cost me an extra $200 or so. This was 7 weeks ago.

Yesterday, i receieved a letter in the mail in regards to a $10 admisinistration fee or something..........i ripped up the letter before getting a chance to read the rest of it.

They expect me to pay $10 extra? ......................F@%&#! off!!!!!

You charge me $4 for a cold hot dog!!!!
You charge me $5 for water!!!!!
You expect me to pay almost $300 a year for AFL membership yet you continually screw this game into the ground.
And................more importantly...........you continue to ruin and destroy my club.........the very same club who set up the AFL and the game itself which has just earnt you over $700million in TV rights!

So i put the ripped up letter in an envelope and sent it back attention to Mr. Demetriou and included a photo copy of my new Melbourne Victory Membership!

Next year, i'm just buying a full Carlton membership.

Ryan I am in the same boat, the $10 admin fee was to to with the monthly direct payment system. The only reason I keep my AFL membership (club support) is for Grand Final Tickets. But now that even costs an extra $80 - used to be nothing!

Ryan2000, good on you for firing up against these pricks! Just out of interest, how long did it take you to get offered full membership? Im still waiting for mine and am curious. But the gall of the AFL to request extra dollars from you is extraordinary. Just wacking an "administration" label to it doesn't mean much!!! Can you believe these c#^ts? They have comprmised our very game. Driven a powerful club to the point of submission just for the sake of personal gratification and to fulfil some sense of vendetta and they want to fleece hard working people like me and you for extra dollars for no proper reason! Go and get f#^ked!!!

These f#^kers are so intoxicated on their own sense of self-worth and importance that they really need to be taught a lesson. This game isn't a hobby of theirs that they can do whatever they want with it but a game of the people that has been built over 100 years by great clubs like Carlton and the many champions that have represented it and the staunch support of passionate Carltonians like me and you. I just wish we had some strong people with some serious backbone representing our club to be able to follow through with this stoush through and stand up for what is Carlton and do right.

The last few years has aroused my passions as a Carlton supporter like never before but has left me so disillusioned with this sport that it is hard to justify following it. The AFL are treating the game and its supporters with sheer contempt. It makes me sick. And this latest PP scam is just another chapter...

Very mature Agro!

I dont mind them chasing this with the AFL. However, as I stated previously, our focus shouldnt be taken away. Our football club is in deep shit, decisions are being made by people interested in shoring up there own positions instead of whats in the long term interest of the club.

This reminds me of Elliott reaching to Pagan to save his arse.

We currently have a paralysed board with no plan, no cohesion and no idea.
We have a coach with no assistants, no strength and conditioning staff and IMHO, no idea.

We also have a 1.5 million dollar loan off the AFL and 7 million dollars debt.
Acquiring a draft pick will be a great bonus but as far as I'm concerned, it will be a nice parting present from our current board.
Their time is up.

Just to be fair, the $10 fee was clearly listed on the application form for those that chose the monthly direct debit. The letter simply said the $10 hadn't been deducted as yet but it would be taken out of the final direct debit for the year.

Synbad, not having a go at you but in regards with the club and other sections of the AFL it didn't take Nostradamus to realise just how lethal and over the top the penalties were going to be to Carlton. The fine is irrelevant in the whole scheme of thing but to deny us access to the only true source of footballing talent at a point where we were at our lowest ebb was tantamount to a death sentence. And all for the sake of personal vendetta's against a white collar crook who didn't fit they preferred criteria. It is criminal AFAIC.

I don't like the fight for the 2002 compensation but feel very strongly about this ridiculous situation where we are denied a PP this year but f#^k it we should fight for both.

But really, did it need to get to this point to realise just how destructive those penalties were? I realised this on the 23rd of November 2002!!!

Only took me 5 years. Its supposed to take 7. I dunno......maybe with ground renovations they've been able to book me in earlier.
Don't know if i want it or not now. I don't think i do!

Thank you MarciBlue - my sentiments exactly.

And BlueVain - I am very mature actually :P . (you just dont watch "The Sketch Show" )

But I get really pissed off with the "roll over play dead" and "drop our trousers" mentality that is pervading our supporter base, you dont fight hard enough now you will end up like Fitzroy, but as I said elsewhere, not to worry Melbourne Victory wear Navy Blue.

C'mon people, fire up! Stand up for your club! Send some emails. Make some noise. Fight for whats right!!!

Our club is being rorted on a regular basis and is being driven into the ground for no better reason than to satisfy the hatred and self-satisfaction of some pricks at AFL House! How can so few be fired up on this? We are being sodomised again folks. This move by the club is to be applauded and not belittled and ridiculed. If I could do more I would but I know as a collective we can put that little bit more pressure on the process.

Like what?

Why not send a clear and concise TC statement -- signed by members of the TC boards -- sent to the club stating that we fully endorse the action of seeking the reinstatement of our 2002 Priority Pick?

Is that what you were thinking..?

I'd wait for confirmation that they are proceeding with it first.

Anything really. Anything besides the indifference that seems to permeate these boards
