Noticed in todays age Carlton advertising for a conditioning coach.

Surely there is someone from TC with the credentials to apply!! I'd apply for it myself but... the fact that I'm technically obese, lack the education and quite frankly too lazy..... means I'll give it a miss!

Anyone have any recommendations on who we should be targetting?

I would try to headhunt whoever is doing the job in Sydney. They are supremely fit and have no injuries...

There will be plenty of quality people involved in various areas throughout Football Victoria, eg. TAC teams.
Quite often these areas are controlled by younger people who are more receptive to new technology and ideas.
Many of the TAC sides have changed the way players are managed immensely with muscle management etc.

Many of Carltons intra training management is the same as 4 years ago.

There are advantages of having experienced campaigners as coaches but only the smart ones accept the changes in tactics, athlete management and promote and source change and improvement.
Only fools think they can do the same, train the same and plan the same yet expect a different outcome.

Its good to see we're looking in the market place instead of making knee jerk decisions or appointments as usual.

One of the criteria that was interesting was a tertiary qualification in exercise or sport science. Hopefully that means we're looking at someone outside the box.

Oh but wait...hang on....Denis likes 'yes' men...

No wonder we're sponsored by Optus...

Would most conditioning coaches have these sort of qualifications these days?

Actually no problem with the "background interest" bit (although why you'd be applying if you didn't have that is beyond me) but previous "involvement" isn't necessary as far as I'm concerned.

The day we're brave enough to bring in a complete outsider like Freo did with Ric Charlesworth is the day we've started thinking creatively as an organisation.

Not gonna happen at the moment though.

Most well run organisations don't need to advertise for positions...they head hunt the right people and the job is done.

Then again, we're just an ordinary club.

Considering Pago's love of appointing assistant coaches of a similar age group...

I reckon our next conditioning coach will be Mick Nolan

Dad's Army will then be complete...
